During my Tigray visit, I met my cousin's step-daughter in Shire. She was displaced from Humera along with her husband and child at the beginning of the war. Later, the husband went back to Humera to check their home but had to flee to Sudan. Young family separated.

Voluntary return of IDPs can only happen when there is a voluntary exit by occupying forces. The federal government has clearly displayed its reluctance to apply pressure towards these forces. Tigrayan territory is being used as leverage- and IDPs are suffering as a result.
