@gfodor@jonathanwilson I don't know if the government will be helpful here.
With the Manhattan Project, the solution was more or less clear (Atomic bomb), we just needed unity.
With alignment, the solution is extremely unclear. Not sure if the bureaucracy of government will help in finding it.
@gfodor yea kinda reminds me of a few (fairly technical) crypto people that basically minimize the impact of AI every chance they get.
they cant really get over the fact that something other than their own ideas could possibly be more important for the world
@krishnanrohit the gaming market is pareto distributed (small % of whales spend the most time/money)
the music/movies market is more uniform (cost of spotify and netflix is the same for everyone)
@gfodor cheating elections is so dangerous. its not reversible until way after, so the dominant strategy becomes "cheat first, worry about the consequences later".
With the OpenAI clownshow, there's been renewed media attention on the xrisk/"AI safety" nonsense. Personally, I've had a fresh wave of reporters asking me naive questions (+ some contacts from old hands who know how to handle ultra-rich man-children with god complexes). π§΅1/
