Next week, on May 4th, the paperback of BETWEEN TWO FIRES will be published (with a new cover!), a book the NYT called "deep and revealing" and The Economist said is "wonderfully insightful." Hope to get a chance to talk more about it and all things Russia https://t.co/jXPTrG1ogJ
The Populist is out, the result of my 14-year investigation of Pavel Durov's strategy & mind, and the epic of Telegram. The book is based on talks with D and his rivals. Clashes with Putin, US, France; tech bros and manosphere ties; sperm race; and more 👉 https://t.co/M7rp3acJs0
A new semester means fresh slate of events @Bard_Berlin. First up on Sep 27: a discussion of the politics of memory (or absence and denial of historical memory) in Germany and Russia, and what that means for politics and society today. Berliners, join us! https://t.co/Nf2JSd1gzg
My story in this week's @NewYorker: on the radical experiment of Marlene Engelhorn, an Austrian heiress who assembled a council of fifty strangers to give away her inheritance. https://t.co/Wuvjt1TiJe
Attention Frankfurt! The newly minted Pulitzer Prize winner @NathanThrall is on his way right now to speak at @nothilfe tonight. Join us if you’re in town or watch the livestream. https://t.co/f0hSQN70Mm
In a sadly not unimaginable but deeply regrettable turn of events, the Union Club in Frankfurt *cancelled* my talk with @NathanThrall next Tuesday. The good news: we’ll be hosted by the wonderful team at Medico International instead. Join us! https://t.co/eda3ouQzGW
Berliner Freunde! A last reminder that I’ll be speaking with two remarkably talented and always interesting Russia watchers—@VALERIEinNYT and Svetlana Erpyleva—on Monday at @Bard_Berlin. https://t.co/XqyWZmqp1m
Second is on May 6 w/@NathanThrall, a unique voice and humane, perceptive, challenging writer on Israel/Palestine. Rare chance to see him in Berlin. https://t.co/MEYw3gogz2
Attention Berlin friends! I'm holding two events on important subjects with super interesting people @Bard_Berlin in coming weeks. First is on April 29 w/@VALERIEinNYT and Svetlana Erpyleva of Public Sociology Laboratory. https://t.co/XqyWZmqp1m
What's Next for Putin's Russia? More of the same?@yaffaesque and I discuss with @AKendallTaylor and Jim Townsend on Brussel Sprouts @CNASdc

“He needs a certification…Proof he can hold up and say, yet again, ‘The country is behind me.’” My @NewYorker essay on Putin’s reelection this weekend and how two years of war has (and has not) recast Russian politics, society, economy. https://t.co/GiMBgowLXv
Attention Berliners! On November 28 I’ll be speaking with @Bard_Berlin with the one and only @StankoNastya, who will talk about her singular reporting from Ukraine. More info and register here: https://t.co/9JFQQKCebe
For those of you following the war over the last two years, and Ukraine long before that, you know what a gifted, special, and informed voice Nastya is. A rare chance to see her in Berlin on November 28. (And Munich on November 29!)
Дорогі друзі, хто в Берліні, або Мюнхені - буду наступного тижня в цих двох прекрасних містах, які дуже люблю - приходьте, поговоримо, посумуємо). Обіцяю бути дуже відвертою
@k_sonin@shustry Anyway, say you don’t like the article and question how it was reported (all legit points) and apologise to Simon for the baseless ad hominem and let’s move on.
War, especially a prolonged one with relentless suffering, makes everyone lose their heads. But this is silly and worthy of an apology. @shustry is a professional, judicious, courageous reporter who has been reporting on Ukraine for a decade-plus. https://t.co/cVBIE9tOdn
I am fine with dramatization of political life and appreciate narratives that I don't necessarily share, yet it seems that @TIME did let a Russian asset (even if an unwitting one) to profile the Ukrainian president.
@k_sonin@shustry Seriously, that’s your “evidence” for calling someone a Russian asset? Nearly whole of Russian elite was convinced in winter 2021/22 Putin was trying to bluff/blackmail West. You’re playing a “кому выгодно” Soviet-style game to twist reporting that into some kind of conspiracy.
