Journalists and media professionals from diverse organizations who gathered for a one-day awareness workshop on the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) Standards and grant opportunities, were urged to adhere to ethical standards so as to restore public confidence in the media.
Health misinformation poses a serious threat to communities, especially in the digital age, where false information can spread rapidly. Inaccurate health information can lead to harmful behaviours like vaccine refusal, medication misuse, and the adoption of ineffective treatments, all of which endanger lives and undermine public health efforts.
The fellows who used the visit to highlight some of their needs highlighted the need for continuous Advocacy as Misinformation persists within the health sector. In his response. He directed that the fellows be included in all state information dissemination activities, assured them of the necessary resources, and reiterated the ministries' commitment to supporting them in key mandates, including staff training and health insurance awareness. He also encouraged the fellows to create an annual activity plan and actively participate in International Health Day planning with the Ministry.
