MPEDA participated in the State Fisheries Meeting held at CIFE, Versova, Mumbai, on 22 September 2025, which was inaugurated by Shri Nitesh Rane, Hon. Minister of Fisheries, Ports, Govt. of Maharashtra.

The event brought together farmers, fishermen, exporters, and officials to discuss the impact of reciprocal US tariffs and strengthening India’s domestic shrimp market. The important participants included Dr Ramaswamy N, IAS, Principal Secretary, DoF Maharashtra, Shri Kishor Tawade, IAS, Commissioner of Fisheries, Dr Narottam Prasad Sahu, Director, ICAR-CIFE, Dr Manoj Sharma, M/s Mayank Aquaculture, Shri Siraz Dosani, M/s Rizwan Ice & Cold Storage and Shri Bhushan Patil, MPEDA RD Mumbai, who presented India’s marine exports scenario.

Attended a seminar at the Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Andheri, on the impact of increased American import tariffs on marine fish/shrimp exports and on strengthening domestic/local markets for shrimp sales.

Due to the tariffs imposed by the United States, the fisheries sector is facing heavy losses. As a solution, farmers, traders, and various representatives from the fisheries sector raised their concerns and demands through the seminar and provided necessary suggestions. On behalf of the Maharashtra Government, we assured that all these suggestions will be implemented in the coming time to further strengthen the fisheries sector.

The event was attended by Padum Secretary N. Ramaswamy, Fisheries Commissioner Kishor Tawde, Dr. Manoj Sharma of Mayank Aqua, Dr. Narottam Sahu – Director, CIFE, and others.
