Decentralization on Ethereum isn't only about how many validators there are. Where those validators are located matters too.
With the current network setup, some validators are closer to well connected hubs, allowing them to receive blocks earlier and more consistently.
Validators operating farther away can experience higher propagation delays, making geographic location a more important factor in validator performance.
This is one of the areas where @get_optimum's mump2p approach becomes particularly relevant.
RLNC-based propagation is designed not only to reduce average latency, but also to make latency more consistent across the network. Early testing reported p95 propagation latency dropping from 425ms to 170ms, while standard deviation decreased from 124ms to 46ms.
This could make network performance more accessible to validators across different geographic locations, rather than primarily benefiting those with the strongest network connections.
A stronger network shouldn't depend on where you are.
