Some stories don’t just pass through us they stay, carved into our hearts forever. For me, the story of Esayas Belay is one of those moments that changed something deep inside.
I can’t fully explain it, but the pain he endured feels almost impossible to shake. It lingers in my thoughts every day the torture he faced, the brutality, the unimaginable suffering he went through. The way he died… it’s something no human being should ever experience. Beaten and tortured until his body gave out, a life taken in such a cruel and unjust way.
Esayas was more than a victim. He was a father, a friend, a brother someone deeply loved, someone who mattered. And he lost his life simply because of who he was.
As April is remembered as Amhara Genocide Month, I want to honor him. To say his name. To remember his life, not just his death.
May his soul rest in peace.
You will not be forgotten, Esayas. I will carry your memory with me, wherever I go. #AmharaGenocide
@habtamutm ገፊነት ይታይብሃል። ግን አንተ ማንን ነው የምትታገለው? I have seen all your threads. Its full of critics and anti- Unity of Amharas. ከፋፋይ እና ተከፋይ ሞልቷል አስታራቂ እና አስተዋይ ሰው ነው እንጅ ያነሰን።
The board chairman of @flyethiopian is promoting more intensive drone attacks on Amhara civilians. @flyethiopian also regularly transports soldiers and weapons to the Amhara region. If you care about human rights, boycott @flyethiopian. @elonmusk@IATA
New HRW report on Ethiopian military abuses against medical care in the Amhara conflict. We investigated an apparent drone strike on an ambulance in South Wollo Zone on Nov 30, 2023.
This 🧵 details how we conducted the investigation ⬇️ 1/13 https://t.co/2NLPbptSSb
- Average price of Turkish drones widely used in Ethiopia- $5 million
- Estimated price of each missile fired from these drones- $60,000 to $100,000
A report released yesterday by the government appointed Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRCO) has revealed a widespread use of drones in various parts of the country in recent months.
And yet,
- One in three children in Ethiopia are out of school
- Tens of thousands of teachers in Southern Ethiopia are complaining they've not received their salary for over a year
- Public universities are warning their budget for one student currently is a mere 22 Birr (0.40 U.S cent) per day and they're unable to feed them anymore
- Ethiopia's income from foreign trade has declined 30 percent... etc
This begs the question 'What's really happening?'
But still war mongering and bravado rule the day, and observers warn the country could further torn apart if these cycles of violence and conflicts don't end... and end soon!
The Embassy of 🇨🇦 is deeply concerned by the killing of civilians in the Amhara region. Protection of civilian population is the basic element of humanitarian law. Dialogue is the only way to bring sustainable end of conflicts in the country as was stated by @EthioHRC
We are calling for humanitarian aid access to continue in #Ethiopia’s Amhara region where a state of emergency has been declared after a renewal in violence.
We must shield children from violence, displacement, hunger & abuse & ensure families are granted safety & essential aid.
In Ethiopia, “bag of tricks” alliances that politicians concoct in whiskey Bets have repeatedly led to untold destructions. OPDO which was one of the primary actors in the Tigray atrocities is trying to create yet another of these tricks to once again save its predatory regime.

🎥AAA Chairman Tewodrose Tirfe: "...what we are witnessing right now in the Amhara Region is the culmination of a decades long buildup of political marginalization, subjugation & genocide being committed against the Amhara people by successive regimes in Ethiopia starting from the Derg regime, followed by the Tigray People's Liberation Front, and now by Abiy and his Oromo Prosperity Party..."
