Today is the 47th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act. It has for almost five decades ensured Taiwan’s security and bolstered U.S. interests in the Indo-Pacific. The TRA still stands today as a bulwark against Chinese Communist Party aggression.
As #TeamTaiwan’s Lin Yu-ting 林郁婷 prepares to fight for gold in women’s boxing at #Paris2024, she carries the strength of a nation. She has faced adversity & senseless attacks from beyond the ring with incredible grace & unwavering courage. We're cheering her on to the finish!
Challenging Taiwanese female Olympic boxer Lin Yu-ting's eligibility is not only a challenge to the International Olympic Committee but also a challenge to Taiwan as a whole.
Lin Yu-ting is a globally recognized top female boxer with 16 years of experience and many international championships. This is her second Olympics, where she is fully qualified to compete for a gold medal in the sport she loves.
Lin first started boxing as a child to protect her mother from domestic abuse. When she began, there were very few female boxers in Taiwan, so she trained with male boxers.
Inspired by her, more talented women in Taiwan have now joined boxing.
She was awarded Taiwan’s Best Female Athlete.
We feel personally attacked when she is humiliated, and the President of Taiwan has announced that the government will support her in taking legal action against the IBA for damaging her reputation.
Today, Lin will return to the ring once again. Let's cheer her on.

@CNN@rogerwaters@smerconish “Taiwan is part of China, and that's been absolutely accepted by the whole of the international community since 1948.” — NOT TRUE.
@nhk_news My condolences to former Prime Minister’s family and Japanese people. Deep sorrow from many of us in Taiwan. Shocked to learn what has happened.
Felt a little emotional when the #Taipei skies darkened and the top of #Taipei101, #Taiwan’s tallest building lit up. The tower’s colours change every day. Tonight #Taiwan stands with #Ukraine
The arrests of #StandNews staff & singer Denise Ho @hoccgoomusic are yet another example of the Beijing authorities' crackdown on free speech in #HongKong. We in #Taiwan regret to see their detention & call on the international community to stand up for freedom & democracy in HK.
Taiwan will never surrender to the EVIL Chinese Communist Party.
Taiwan is a DEMOCRATIC and FREE country.
I #StandWithTaiwan
The future of Taiwan must be determined by the Taiwanese people.
Taiwan is NOT a part of China
and NEVER will be!

Taiwan is a critical partner to the United States and a democratic success story. Taiwan should have meaningful participation in the @UN system, especially as we face an unprecedented number of global challenges.
