🧠⚡️ New results from our n=178 brain stim dataset using 7T MRS and fMRI! ⚡️🧠
1. Baseline glutamate levels predict the gains from stimulation.
2. Brain stimulation modifies learning-related changes in patterns of activity.

@andrewwhite01 This looks like it will be super useful! How can we access the 650 free credit as a .edu user? I've signed up + verified but only 10 credits appear on my profile
#OHBM2025 was a blast -- the perfect way to celebrate submitting my PhD thesis with y'all 🎉
It was an honor to represent the Aussie imaging community alongside a fab panel in the LOC Symposium, sharing my final thesis work on homotopic connectivity:

We’re Explore Science, stepping out of stealth with something we think is pretty cool: Embodied AI Scientists running human experiments and publishing their own paper. We're excited to share our work - check it out! https://t.co/gXMHKbQgu3
#AI#Science
So AI can design/run/analyse/write up a full psych experiment now... with actual data it collected itself, proper stats, prereg and everything. This is pretty insane.

We just published this great essay at @AsimovPress. I think it persuasively argues that biologists should think of mitochondria as actual, living organisms (and not just as the "powerhouse" of the cell.)
This is my favorite passage:
@MitoPsychoBio The brain is probably also using fatty acids, so ketones alone might not explain the downstream effects of a shift to lower glucose:

Our findings indicate that neurons may also use fatty acids, not just sugars, as their energy source, supporting recent findings https://t.co/aIFsrzmOjK

Are you working with in vivo optogenetics? Ever wondered what the impact of shining laser light within the brain in the absence of exogenous opsins has on neuronal activity? PLEASE SEE https://t.co/XS4TV867KE & READ 🧵👇
work done @SWC_Neuro, thx Mateo Velez-Fort & Troy Margrie
My PhD is out in @NatureComms! We showed that social transmission of stress in male mice impairs memory retrieval through a mitoCB1 mechanism in olfactory bulb astrocytes. Special thanks to @MarsicanoLab and @stressynomics, and to all the people involved! https://t.co/W01CgmoypI
🚨New paper alert!🚨
We make a lot of eye movements. Several per second. Eye movements change the retinal image. A long-debated question in visual neuroscience is how do we track objects across eye movements?! We think it could be relatively simple… 🧵

The second study of my PhD is out in
@BBI_Health
! We found no association between maternal adverse events during pregnancy and microbiome composition in children and adolescents. 🧬💩 👧🏼
@willjharrison We used Bayesian stats here, so especially considering the relatively small number of tests here we believe that the estimates are conservative enough to not require multiple comparisons corrections. See this blog post by Andrew Gelman: https://t.co/KGwMsp1mqq

there is a revolution taking place in biology before our eyes
I spent the past month reading the papers & interviews of @drmichaellevin, and wrote a long-form essay explaining his work and why it's important
