Actually it would probably be half of $800k, if your estate is worth 105% more than $750k, you get taxed on the whole estate. I’m not opposed to taxing the rich more, but preventing almost every New Yorker with a paid off mortgage from passing on their house to their kids seems like a horrible idea.
