This is a testament of hard work pays. One day students in the Blockchain club I aim to start would have similar stories of winning (not sending a vex address). Haha.
MY team won $5k in the @BioProtocol hackathon and lost it all until the @BioProtocol team came to the rescue!
Honestly, this post has been long overdue but getting swamped by school stuff has delayed things. Anyway straight to story😂
My team competed in the @BioProtocol hackathon that focused on building DeSci projects. I was particularly excited to participate at the time as an undergraduate dealing with final year project wahala.
We built @taniatheplugin. The idea was simple. So many researchers do not like publishing their works that accept the null hypothesis. This is the null hypothesis bias. This bias means that researchers who find NO RELATIONSHIP between the variables they have analyzed feel like they have made little to no contribution to science. Therefore, many of those studies are swept under the rug and left unpublished.
However, these studies are also crucial. They allow the scientific community to know what frontiers still need to be pushed in terms of scientific research. As a researcher, if I do not know what variables are not related, I will blindly conduct studies around those same variables only to arrive at the same conclusion as other researchers. This wastes resources, time and effort and contributes to the "Science is slow" argument.
To be honest, I believed in the quality of our project but I had never won an hackathon before so I mentally checked out after submission. To my pleasant surprise we won:
https://t.co/YM5uiKnGn8
Now this is where drama started 😂:
Usually, I am thorough with sending/submitting wallets, but I was very bogged down by final project palaver so I left our AI dev and team lead @OlamideAwobusu1 to handle the submission of invoices and other such things to the @BioProtocol team. We ought to receive vested tokens.
Ladies and gentlemen, my dev sent a CENTRALIZED COINBASE WALLET to the team. 😂😂😂In his defense, he is a growing crypto bro and is still learning some things. Truth is I did not even notice anything till the @BioProtocol team said they had distributed the rewards. He was like "Timi be like I dey connect wrong wallet, the money no show". I was like "Oga, no be everything you go dey use play". 😂
When I realized he was serious, I asked him which wallet he sent, and he confirmed that it was a Coinbase wallet. I got the wallet, went straight to Etherscan and confirmed that the funds were actually in the wallet. However, they are not accessible since such centralized wallets do not support/interact with Smart contracts. We called Coinbase customer support and they confirmed there was nothing they could do. 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS GONE.
I felt so bad, especially because I do not write code, but I have guys that do. I basically presented the hackathon, brought everyone to the team and managed the project. @OlamideAwobusu1 was the Backend and AI dev (Team Lead), @crazy_dev0 was our frontend dev, @ifedimeji_ was our designer. @othnapcalx consulted on smart contracts and Goodness consulted on solana development. @crazy_dev0 , @ifedimeji_ and @OlamideAwobusu1 have particularly seen "shege in my hand" cause I am full of ideas and hackathons, but we have not won any. As far back as 2020 @OlamideAwobusu1 and I built a trivia game so there is so much trauma bonding there. Breaking the news to the team was particularly difficult because I knew how much the money could do for the gang. How do you tell a team that had worked so hard and even celebrated winning that they had lost it all.
Olamide and I decided to reach out the @BioProtocol team and we were initially told that nothing could be done. After a couple of days, a @BioProtocol dev told us that we were in luck for two reasons:
1. The tokens were vested tokens
2. Coinbase actually listed $BIO.
Therefore they could release the $BIO tokens that were past vesting unlock to the Coinbase account and the remain tokens would now be vested to another wallet. Because based on my understanding, the smart contract was designed to release $BIO tokens to our submitted wallet based on the periodic parameters. Since Coinbase accounts (and the associated wallets) do not interact with smart contracts, the tokens could not be claimed and would remain forever frozen. To that end, the devs could trigger a release of an equal amount of normal (unvested) $BIO to the Coinbase account since the token is listed on the exchange, and then revoke the Coinbase account's right to claim vested tokens. This right is then assigned to a newly provided decentralized wallet.
This was a great relief, but Olamide and I decided to wait until we received the first payment before announcing to the gang. No need to give false hope in case things did not go as planned. I am very grateful to the @BioProtocol team and the dev (really wish we could tag him). They did not have to help us since the mistake was entirely ours. This shows that they do care about builders within their ecosystem and this is very comforting. Projects are often criticized for all the things they do wrong (and some of them actually do wrong lmaoo), but it is nice to see a team that goes the extra mile to see folks rewarded for their hard work.
If you are thinking about my gang, know that we are hard at work again building projects and improving our skills. The entire issue was a great test of trust, loyalty and integrity and I am so proud that my boys expressed their displeasure about the mistake without for once insinuating that I was trying to play a fast one on them. Maybe they thought it (especially that @ifedimeji_ boy 😂), but they did not say it out. I can say they TRUST ME. Feels good.
We are working on improving the @taniatheplugin
to make it more accessible especially for veteran and amateur researchers. If you have WEB2/WEB3 projects you will like to build from start to finish just send a dm.
MY TEAM CAN BUILD ANYTHING....because we are the power rangers (😂😂😂 .....sorry). I am talking too much now so I will just say byeeee! Keep clicking!
I’m adding positions on solid plays on Sol.
Happy to be playing on BNB as well but hype and volume will always return to SOL.
Follow volume, trend but be able to predict where next.
I absolutely think the stream meta will have a big reversal from here.
There is a 5-10x back to ATH on almost every major runner.
I’m betting here.
$FTP (currently $1.3M) ATH 13M.
$GMAN (currently $270k) ATH $3.4M
$BAGWORK (currently $5M) ATH $50M
Wdyt? By the way DYOR.
