As per U.S. State Department Travel Advisory (July 31, 2023), DO NOT travel to:

- Tigray Region and border with Eritrea due to sporadic violent conflict, civil unrest, and crime.
- Afar-Tigray border areas due to sporadic violent conflict, civil unrest, and crime.
- Amhara Region due to sporadic violent conflict and civil unrest.
- Gambella and Benishangul Gumuz Regions due to crime, kidnapping, ethnically motivated violence, and sporadic violent conflict

Those advocating for the balkanization of Somalia have accused Somalis of irredentism.

They seek to detach a province called Somaliland from Somalia; they want Ethiopia to extend its territory to Somalia’s sea, acquiring by force a port and military base, yet they accuse Somalis of irredentism!

We are striving to protect our land — Somalia — from the encroachments of Ethiopians, terrorists both Al Qaeda and ISIS, pirates and illegal fishers, and even Kenya tried to claim the other sea (the Indian Ocean) and the International Court of Justice told her, no, yet, we face accusations of irredentism.

What does irredentism even mean?

According to the dictionary, it is a policy of advocating for the return of any territory that formerly belonged to a country.

If we had advocated reclaiming what we lost, perhaps the current drive for balkanization would not have occurred.

It's a strange world where victims become the accused.
