Wasn’t posting much here anyway but after Elon’s little display, I am done with this site. For the vanishingly few that care, u/Yuzral on Reddit and (at)https://t.co/aM0ldKnlSv where the sky is blue.
Somewhat disingenuous question in today's @thetimes Voice survey. There is a very, very large difference between "stop using BMI **alone**" (emphasis mine) and "stop using BMI":
@thinkdefence Start by refurbishing Raleigh, Britannia and the RFA, +/- the various dockyards as needed. Then probably bulk up the destroyer and frigate fleet and pump money into Dragonfire’s development and deployment. Then think about UAV and USV options and deepening the munitions stocks.
@alfie_w_1979@TheNorfolkLion ...the answer is probably not exactly, but the bigger the sample, the nearer it gets.
For the mean (sum of sample values divided by number of samples), it's increasingly likely as the number of samples increases, assuming either a symmetrical bell curve or a flat distribution.
@alfie_w_1979@TheNorfolkLion It depends on how you define average, be it mean, median or mode.
It's always true of the median because that's how the median is defined - the value that 50% of the sample is above and 50% below.
For the mode (the most common value in the sample set) then...
@CWLemoine On the contrary, that's a splendid example of compromise between conflicting goals. They didn't want to explode, the missile thought they should and in the end only the plane exploded.
@Goretotem@LawGeekSandy@qedx_@BirdRespecter But in terms of game *design*, stuff like Star Wars Galaxies with professions, player housing and serious player-to-player economies were arguably more sophisticated than a lot of modern games.
@Goretotem@LawGeekSandy@qedx_@BirdRespecter Ehh, sort of? What really held online gaming back in the late 90s/early 00s was that most of us were still on 36-56 kbps dialup. The big consumer broadband rollouts that started…I want to say 2003ish? were what really got it going.
@LawGeekSandy@qedx_@BirdRespecter Going to disagree - WoW launched in 2004. By that point Ultima Online had been going for 7 years and EverQuest for 5, not to mention all the others. The real question back then was whether it could take on the rather more hardcore EverQuest II to be king of the 3rd gen.
@NC5PhilWilliams Well, that’s that problem solved. Now they just need a new city attorney. Salary range apparently $29,250-$390,000+, so there is at least some room for negotiation.
