@ryanchris @jeffrey @Stammy One of the biggest hurdles for first time managers is the realization that it’s no longer about you. When you’re an IC you are reflected in the work and the two are joined at the hip. When you’re a manager the team is that reflection. Some people can’t ever make that jump.

Some my earliest memories of reading was sitting down with a copy of The Mouse and his Motorcycle. Beverly Cleary wrote some of my favorites children’s books and I’ve enjoyed sharing them with my kids. Sad to hear she passed away.

When kids repeatedly ask “why?” they’re trying to see the underlying reasoning behind what they’re told by authorities. “Because I said so” rejects that instinct and says “stop reasoning and obey.” We then become adults who only know how to trust authorities other than ourselves.
