Tejas Mk2 may already be outdated for frontline operations by the time it enters service, according to former IAF Vice Chief Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor.

Asked whether it would be operationally relevant in the mid-2030s, his answer was blunt:

“Operationally, definitely no.”

Kapoor said India cannot keep waiting indefinitely for indigenous fighters while China moves ahead with 5th and 6th-generation platforms.

He added that Tejas Mk2 could still play a role in filling the gaps that limited numbers of 5th and 6th-generation fighters cannot cover.
