Here is a prime example:

Patient needs an albuterol HFA inhaler.

We have 3 generics readily available in-stock at all times. Wholesale cost between $7 - $13.

@Humana thinks it’s more cost effective to “prefer brand name Ventolin” which has a wholesale cost of around $55.

@Humana doesn’t actually contribute toward the claim, just makes the patient “pay the full copay of $53.90” which would be a loss for us to fill.

So, make the patient buy the MOST expensive product and screw over their pharmacy to stock and dispense the branded product.

Oh, and pay their monthly premium to even have the “coverage” on top of their copay.

Makes a lot of fucking sense, doesn’t it @Humana

I’m going to do the proper thing here, and dispense the generic of my choosing, and cash the claim out for about 50% less than what the patient would have paid USING THEIR INSURANCE!!!
