On #TsunamiDay, we remember the lessons of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami: know the warning signs & #GetToHighGround. It's essential to pass these lessons to the next generation of children & youth. Coastal communities must prioritize teaching tsunami risks in schools. 🌊
🌿💧Wetlands are our protectors and providers. These ecosystems shield us from extreme weather while nourishing us with food resources, from fisheries to agriculture.

🌍 We have reached a stepping stone of integrating #DRR into the economic framework and development discourse. 🌱
The G20's first Ministerial Declaration on DRR emphasizes the need to protect those most at-risk by tackling inequalities and reducing vulnerabilities. 🤝
FOUR PAWS urges member states to prioritise spillover prevention measures within the #PandemicAgreement. Identifying and tackling the drivers of outbreaks at the human-animal-environment interface is key to safeguarding health worldwide. 🌍 #INB12#OneHealth
Agricultural intensification, deforestation, land use change, & wildlife trade fuel disease risks. While several countries consider One Health important & take action, efforts must be scaled up through the instrument ensuring support & means for implementation for prevention.
A #OneHealth approach that enables collaboration & coordination across relevant sectors and involves communities, is the only way to effectively tackle pandemics. Sectors where diseases emerge must co-develop and implement prevention strategies to curb animal-human spillovers.
An estimated 1.7mil “undiscovered” viruses exist in mammals & birds, of which up to 827,000 could potentially infect humans (IPBES, 2020). The Pandemic Treaty must prioritise prevention of spillover-an important global health pillar not addressed in other legal instruments yet.
With 75% of emerging infectious diseases in humans —like COVID-19, Ebola, Mpox, bird flu, HIV or Marburg virus —originating in animals, it’s vital to address the drivers of spillover at the human-animal-environment interface. #OneHealth
🧵 #INB12 Pandemic Treaty negotiations start today! WHO Member States are negotiating an international #PandemicAgreement focused on preventing, preparing for, and responding to pandemics, building more resilient health systems, and promoting equity. #
With only 2 days of negotiations left at #COP16Colombia, we need to accelerate towards:
🔵A new era for ambitious national biodiversity plans.
🔵Concrete plans to unlock new funding.
🔵Protecting and including those who guard our natural heritage.
The survival of our planet’s biodiversity is on the line.
