Researchers at NCI uncovered how liver cells decide whether fat is stored safely or becomes harmful—a key step toward understanding fatty liver disease and cancer. Fundamental discovery, multidisciplinary collaboration, and prevention-focused science are how we move cancer research forward. Learn more: https://t.co/RhAj8fq7lw

"Hispanic/Latino" was built for policy, not biology. In leukemia, treating it as one group hides real diversity in ancestry, access & disease.

The State Department said it takes "full responsibility" for "hastily" altering and then presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted.
An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.

How do hundreds of GPCRs maintain the same activation mechanism while evolving to recognize completely different signaling partners?
We developed an evolutionary framework that separates residues responsible for shared GPCR functions from those driving specialization

🧬Machine learning prediction of hypertension integrating polygenic risk scores in 175,704 inner Eurasian individuals from Genotek biobank🧡
Today our paper in Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine was published. We analyzed three PRS for blood pressure traits. The strongest effect was observed for the diastolic blood pressure PRS, with an OR of 6.7 for the top decile compared with the bottom decile
We also showed significant associations across different ethnic groups, including Russians, Mordvins, Ashkenazi Jews, Buryats, Yakuts, Armenians and populations of the North Caucasus.
The best-performing model was a Dense Neural Network with ROC-AUC = 0.82. The model integrated questionnaire-based risk factors, including age, sex, BMI, smoking, alcohol consumption, education, work type, physical activity and daily steps, together with three polygenic risk scores.
Overall, we showed that a combined model based on questionnaire data and three PRS achieves good predictive performance and transfers across different ethnic groups of inner Eurasia.
This work grew out of the master’s thesis of our student Vera Tsvetkova.

Studies now present a striking picture of what happens when private equity firms acquire hospitals and nursing homes: predictable increases in harm and deaths. One landmark study shows: patient deaths up about 11% after such acquisitions.

Every treatment decision means weighing disease context, comorbidities, drug interactions, contraindications, and evidence that keeps changing. That is an iterative reasoning problem. You have to figure out what evidence to go find before you can even start forming a conclusion.
Most LLMs answer from what is stored in their weights. Give agents tools and they often still do not use them well. Having access to a biomedical database does not automatically mean a model knows when to query it, what to ask, or how to weigh what comes back.
