I reckon I do business in more African countries than the average person, and I've learned to ignore such posts as they reflect poorly on the ground.
In short, if you think you're gonna make 6x more returns, even 2x more returns in Botswana than Zimbabwe because you saw a video on X, you're irredeemably screwed.
The average Zimbabwean consumer spends far much more in USD without relying on debt. It's an absurdly cash rich economy. Zimbabwe, DRC etc have extremely large & informal economies which are often completely ignored in these 'wealth statistics'.
There's a lot of bs propaganda out there, and you shouldn't fall for these misleading ramblings, especially in regards to outdated economic measurements like GDP. Any person with common sense can't compare Gaborone to Harare. The visual evidence is clear, Harare represents a much bigger economy. This is like those folks who say China doesn't actually have 1.5B people.
Saying X country, is 6x richer than Y country requires a lot of evidence & market experience in both places not things you read on the internet. Markets humble you. There are countries with great PR but very little business.
Africa is extremely complex and there are no one size fit all narratives. It's beyond dangerous to keep perpetuating lazy perspectives. It's why the Chinese & Indian businesses that come to Africa become obscenely wealthy, they ignore the noise & go straight for the bread.
Anybody at all ESPECIALLY those with no farming experience at all who is even thinking about doing this..... I'd advise you to throw a party for your family, go on holiday or just save it. Anything but this.... Coz unonyura.

MATTER OF FACT! All big things started small. Consider starting with vegetable hybrids. Low capital but high value produce! This will take you to another level. Invest small and harvest BIG. Agronomists will guide you in transplanting throughout the precision farming phase. this is potentially convetable into food and money.
This is business,
How did you start your farming journey?
How to start farming with minimal to no waste of resources!
If I was to start farming today what would I do differently?
1.I would start small.. dont be in a hurry to make it. Directions is more important than speed
2. Make sure you have the right man power. Human resource is the key factor to a successful farm
3. I would invest in myself too. Learn some basic farming. Attend work shops seminars and prioritize farm visits to other successful farmers for learning
4. Before anything else on the farm, infact before buying I would first site for water and drill a good yield borehole
5. I wouldn't invest very much in infrastructure. Invest in production and let your produce build your infrastructure one step at a time. Many farms have great structures but no money for production. Avoid going in too big...
5. Plan your farm in detail, plan for every 3 months which is quarterly, plan mid year every six months and plan yearly. Always have a 3 year plan how you want your farm to look or where you expect it to be and a 5 year plan known as the long term plan
6. Prioritize marketing strategies and market research. What good is a product that cant be sold????
7. Be consistent on one thing.. you will hear stories from new farmers like what is more profitable between veggies and piggery or broiler chickens? That's a wrong question.. anything done well and consistently is profitable. What most people lack is consistency
This is what I would do differently....
What would you do differently???
