@marypot I never said one was better than the other! But like you said, there are reasons why the tonys are more well known. You may not be mad/frustrated but other ppl in this thread are which my original comment was responding too.
@marypot@wlfescrows@silverfcrd Well if you’re fine with not elevating theatre because of being British, you can’t really be mad at the tonys/broadway being more well known lol.
@wlfescrows@silverfcrd Like I said in another comment, the lack of transparency, not broadcasting live, lack of respect for musicals doesn’t help perceptions!
@wlfescrows@silverfcrd It’s gotta start with the UK audience and actors first imo and give it more clout, bc it’s not that impactful as it should be from a home audience. The og comment I replied to blames Americans but uk folks are to blame as well
@ruth_walshe I mean the oliviers have non-west end shows too, as long as a theater pays a fee they can be eligible lol I think they should be more restrictive
@wlfescrows Winning an Olivier doesn’t change public perception as much as a Tony does, speaking as a fan of both 2/2.
Maybe once uk audiences/actors buy into an oliver win more, they will be more impactful.

I think this gives a good overview on why tonys are more impactful than the oliviers. Oliviers lack of transparency, not broadcasting live, lack of respect for musical categories doesn’t help. 1/2
