🇮🇳 India is now the 4th largest economy by GDP globally — a moment of pride! 💹
But there’s a paradox:
Its GDP per capita remains one of the lowest among major economies.
A thread 🧵 on what this means, and which indicator tells the real story ⬇️
Dude… this is what inspiration looks like. ❤️
You don’t have to search for it. It’s literally everywhere.
I was at a Shell pump today, filling petrol ⛽️ for my car. A little frustrated with the traffic, took me 45 minutes to drive just 4 km to reach the pump. Petrol was ₹138.50/litre, but at that point, I thought, okay, justified. 😅
It was around 9 PM. The young girl filling petrol asked me for the details in Hindi. Usually, in this area, slightly away from the city, almost rural, so people first speak in Marathi.
Out of curiosity, I asked her where she was from. Raigad.
So I asked, “How did you end up here? That too, a little away from the city?”
She said she had come here for her studies.
And then came the part that stayed with me. She is a student and works part-time at the petrol pump after college, till around 10 PM. The next morning, she’s back to college again.
On weekends, she works double shifts, morning and evening. All of this helps her pay her college fees.
I was honestly shocked. But more than anything, I was inspired. Sometimes, you complain about traffic, prices, work, or a bad day… and then you meet someone who is quietly working twice as hard just to build a better life.
More power to her. ❤️
I asked her if she needed any help with her education. Because sometimes, inspiration doesn’t just make you feel something. It makes you want to do something.

India’s next big challenge?
👉 Transform growth into inclusive growth.
Raise incomes, reduce inequality, invest in health, education, and skills.
Only then will we match our size with our citizens’ well-being. 🇮🇳

So what’s the verdict?
🔹 GDP tells us India is a global economic force.
🔹 GDP per capita reminds us we have a long way to go in improving individual prosperity.
Both matter — but for the common citizen, GDP per capita hits closer to home.
