Things we know:
-The atmosphere holds 7% more moisture for every degree of warming
-Major floods in Westport and Canterbury in 2021 were found to be 10-15% more intense because of climate change
-This is extreme weather at 1.1°C of warming
-We are on track for 2.6°C
@dundee_major@GroundsmellNZ you say 'sacrificing farmers and export earnings', I say 'supporting farmers to diversify so we're not reliant on just one fragile-ass major export industry will make us more resilient both economically and environmentally'
Had an excellent day out recently in my hometown Darfield, learning to listen & find common ground on topics that are both close to people's hearts & often deeply divisive. James' beautiful words here capture the experience perfectly.

just saying I would feel a little bit awkward announcing that I was horny for being in Government while standing beside a giant banner saying GOVERNMENT MUST GO at my own anti-Government protest

obviously reducing our reliance on a.) intensive agriculture and b.) animal protein would go a long way towards reducing this fuckery, but it has to be a widespread shift, and the consequences of antibiotic resistance affect everyone whether or not u eat animal products
rly great this is being reported on, rly frustrating that regulating agricultural use of antibiotics - routinely given to animals before they're even sick, to prevent infection from dirty, crowded conditions - isn't mentioned as a solution??

yes, people not taking their antibiotics is a problem, but in the US, cows & pigs consume 44% more antibiotics than humans do (by weight of active ingredient). why is farming always so fkn untouchable in these kinds of wicked problems?
Here's really powerful story from @kimpaulnguyen. This reaffirms the importance of connection, listening and working to bridge our values with people who we (think we) disagree with.

@d0glizard Hi! I work for the NZ Drug Foundation and I'm looking to write an article for https://t.co/g0jeJa285c about poppers (and the weird semi-legal/prescription-only space they now exist in). Would you be up for talking about your experience, by any chance?
Nice one Aotearoa - drug checking is now legal (not just for summer!). 87 for, 33 against legislation voted on in Parliament today. This is great news for harm reduction & the organisations helping keep people safer. Incredible mahi @KnowYourStuffNZ and everyone involved.
We criticise the fertiliser industry for turning rural drinking water carcinogenic and Gareth Richards of
@RavensdownNZ calls us "farmer-bashing activists."
Farmers & rural people are dying because of nitrate-contaminated water. That's on you Ravensdown.

"The battle I have had with methamphetamine is one of the hardest battles I have fought. But I fought it and I won. I decided to get vaccinated against COVID-19 because I know that's a battle I would not win."
Nitrates back in the news- dual climate and health-benefits from reducing nitrates in groundwater. We have too many cows and use too much artificial fertiliser.

Despite a drug law change in 2019 to allow police discretion not to prosecute in favour of a health-based approach instead, Māori are still being disproportionately prosecuted for drug offences.
thus concludes my last day with the wonderful, clever, kind & world-changing folks @GreenpeaceNZ. Finishing & starting jobs in a pandemic is bizarre, but very appreciative to have worked with such legends - and to have such legends to look forward to working with @nzdrug 🧡
