More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongs—because that was an America that had a place for me, too.
Barack: You told me all those years ago that you couldn’t promise me the world, but you could promise me an interesting life. Of course, you outdid yourself and managed to give me both.
Eight years in the crucible, and not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest essence: your stubborn optimism and unflinching courage, your dazzling brilliance and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic and absolutely unshakable moral fiber.
Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume: “Trump had a bad night... We heard so many of the old grievances that we long thought Trump had learned were not winners politically. And there they all were... This is pretty much her night."
There's a more fundamental insight in this map than "most anti-communist country".
All countries that have experienced communism up close and personal hate communism. Except for Russia.
Perhaps we can make far better sense of this map when we re-frame it as
All countries that have experienced Russia up close and personal hate Russia. Except for Russia.

@marcuslindqvist Olen jonkun verran historiankirjoja lukenut ja maassa viettänyt aikaa. Molemmat osapuolet tehneet törkeyksiä läpi historian. Suurin osa ihmisistä haluaisi elää normisti ja turvallisesti. Samalla valtaa pitävät fundamentalistit molemmilla puolilla takaavat ikuisen sotatilan.
“He is [dead]. But the hope is not.”
Navalny’s funeral saw mourners braving possible arrest in Moscow today to pay their last respects.
@MikhailFishman knew Navalny well and tells @biannagolodryga why, for him, “this is one of the most sorrowful, but also… an inspiring day.”
“I have to go back.” Speaking just before he returned to Russia, Navalny told me: “I don’t think that I can have such a privilege of being safe in Russia, but I have to go back, because I don’t want this group of killers [to] exist in Russia. I don’t want Putin ruling Russia.”
Deeply disturbed and saddened by news of the death of Alexei Navalny.
Putin fears nothing more than dissent from his own people.
A grim reminder of what Putin and his regime are all about.
Let's unite in our fight to safeguard the freedom and safety of those who dare to stand up against autocracy.
@McFaul: “Putin killed Navalny. Let's be crystal clear about that... Putin killed Navalny because he was the one opposition leader in Russia that Putin feared the most."
