Natoa wito kwa jamii yote na wanahabari, tuendelee kushirikiana kuibua changamoto mbalimbali za kijamii ikiwemo kuhusu fikra na mitazamo hasi sambamba na kuelimisha jamii.

CHINUA ACHEBE: WE MUST WRITE OUR OWN STORIES

On 21 March 2013, renowned Nigerian poet and novelist Chinua Achebe transitioned into an ancestor. His work continues to shape African literature today.

In 1988, Achebe (1930-2013) reflected on the literature he studied at university. Upon reading these works closely, he realised that the so-called ‘savages’ often resembled characters that looked like him, African, while the stories portrayed white people as heroes. He explained that without a conscious understanding of this narrative, what may seem like ‘innocent’ fictional tales can misinform Africans who have endured the oppression of slavery and colonialism.

Achebe's solution? Africa must take control of its history by writing about it.

I talk a lot about how Finland has no standardized tests in elementary school, but did you know, In Japan, early education focuses on character, social skills, and teamwork—no standardized tests until 4th grade. Students learn respect, responsibility, and collaboration before academics take center stage. A foundation for life, not just grades.

A powerful argument was on languange as a conduit of knowledge. By seperating educ languages btwn primary and sec we create gaps for knowledge flow to majority. Not going to sec school shld not be an end to access to knowledge. How to fix this?

Push for unprepared, unsupportable & un-implementable transition to Kiswahili as medium of instruction.
