@matthewclifford@ARIA_research Those of us who were in Igor Aleksander's research group back in the day have known how to do this for years. The fact that we've ended up with everyone running the current crop of insanely inefficient AI algorithms is mostly to do with the academic politics of the time.
@thomasforth@ACJSissons Hate to break it to you, but moving everyone onto heatpumps is really an infrastructure investment problem if you want to do it properly: https://t.co/hj8qnenruQ
@katebevan Pretty sure that as far as Richard Sharp and the CPS is concerned it's all going to plan as it is. They even wrote the plan down so we can follow along at home: https://t.co/Fq1QW8Orko
@wutheringbytes@HebdenTownHall Great news. Glad to see you back! Can I put in a request for the 'obscure computer history' slot to try and get @sebrose to talk about that time a Glaswegian HiFi manufacturer tried to take on Silicon Valley?
So, I put an elephant server on AWS at https://t.co/Sbu6uNx6zj. It's largely for experimenting with the ActionPub protocol without upsetting the genuine elephant herders out there, but I'll probably follow a few people I know just to see how it all works 😉
@katebevan@Scientits Suspected that was the case. The problem is that outside a relatively small group of people who pay attention to this stuff, it's still not widely known. Don't have the media profile to make a difference, so just hoping that those who do can help amplify the message.
@katebevan@Scientits You may already know this, but it needs amplifying. Most gas boilers can operate much more effectively than the default settings. Could save people a lot of money if they know about it: https://t.co/qAFZjpedSR
Adjusting your boiler flow temperature is easy, free, and one of the best ways to cut your energy bills. 100,000 people have already turned down theirs, saving £112 each year.
We'll show you how. Try the tool today ➡️ https://t.co/5FIYUNBsOa
With all the recent talk of migrating to Mastadon, I was curious about the tech involved. Wish I had the time to dig a bit deeper, since ActivityPub looks much more powerful for integrating IoT devices into social networks than the Twitter API: https://t.co/2Nk5E7ikr8
@davidareader Too much undisclosed magic to deal with post-pub. Although once any power electronics stuff gets beyond the basics, I just tend to revert to whatever the Linear Devices reference design is for that situation!
@andysc@embedded_iot @piofthings @gy4nt@goatchurch@arlennipper Having a stable standard must be a unique selling point in the IoT space. Most alternatives seem to be in a constant state of standardisation churn, a lot of which seems to be more motivated by 'making IPv6 happen' than solving real problems on existing networks.
@alexbloor @M_Kacz_M @fascinatorfun Getting very close to being as cheap to run a diesel generator as take electricity from the grid. With the new price cap running the generator with red diesel (legit for domestic use) will be cheaper. That joke about using a diesel generator to change your EV is now getting real.
Lots of comment about the new #EnergyPriceCap 'average household' headline figure, but you need to look at the price per kWh to appreciate how ridiculous it is. 52 pence per kWh for electricity is about the same as you'd pay for running a diesel generator on pump-price fuel.
If you want to be pedantic, it's not actually an authentic Pico - it's the @WIZnet_EU W5500 Pico based dev board. Getting to grips with that device can wait until next week...
@alexbloor To be fair, Thames Water have been trying to build a new £1bn reservoir since 2006, but DEFRA told them to scrap the idea because they didn't see an immediate need for it: https://t.co/UxyNmXOKx8
@katebevan The administrative overhead for this is insane and it must have cost local councils a fortune to manage the payments. Full details here: https://t.co/pHwAurMs8u
