My local GST officer earns around ₹75 lakh a month from bribes. He takes a ₹5,000 bribe for each GST application he approves. On average he approves 50 applications a day, that's ₹2.5 lakh per day—or roughly ₹75 lakh per month. Meanwhile, his official salary is only ₹77,000 per month.

Our former cook Charu Mami makes lovely molagapudi. It's crunchy, distinctive, and makes idli dosa come alive. She sells 1 kg molagapudi for 450 rupees. I believe 1 kg lasts a year.
