In May 2014 a small group of people from the Eye area of Suffolk, UK came together to discuss the idea of a permanent memorial to the 490th Bombardment Group.
@MoneySavingExp No, but save the money separately instead. I don’t suppose they’ll question it but if they do tell them it’s being saved because as it was unacknowledged, you thought it was lost in transit.
@petemorristwit The reason is simple. Us old ‘uns remember well various family and friends ending up in iron lungs, or crippled, or deaf, or mentally challenged , or out of breath for life plus standing by the tiny graves of our friends because we did not have any choice.
Judge us not.
@basilthegreat I’m not sure this is unusual. Each person has a daily limit for withdrawals which you set yourself. Over that you have to give notice. The most often used reason is “home alterations “
@Artemisfornow Many many years ago my late father delivered an old mattress to the town hall when they failed to turn up for a pre arranged and paid for collection. Just left it at reception.
@ClarksonsFarm1 A large proportion of the fields around this airfield are planned for solar farming we are all very worried and sad to be losing our green and pleasant land
@lippyent How times have changed Right from tiny I walked with a friend from school. About 1 mile When I was 11 my senior school was too far to walk I was given an old bike and cycled the back road route as the main roads in London were even then dangerous This was 1959/1964 3 to 4 miles
@MrNickKnowles@HSBC_UK We are small fry compared to yourself but are still now on our 3rd bank to operate our community account. HSBC - Barclays - Lloyds. Can’t win our nearest branch is 25 miles away. A 50 mile round trip for a chat and advice coming up shortly. Unbelievable
@StripMatt@latimeralder We are in Suffolk and have already a newly built power station, a large battery storage set up, a row of new pylons and a new enormous solar farm all with 5 sq miles of this spot in our green and pleasant area. I hope it’s going to be worth our while
@AfricanArchives From out airfield Memorial area. Our local people much admired the Aviation Engineers who were all black. Always Remembered, Never forgotten
@CatholicCharm I did the same with my stepmother. I never regretted it. She felt able to take part in our home life, helped around the house and with shopping. She still drove and was able to visit old friends. I still miss her so very much.
@JacquiDeevoy1 Myself also, slipped over, the gp saw me within the hour, a nurse dressed all wounds referred to a and e, I walked out of there 4 hours later having had triage, X-ray, doctor discussion. 6 emergencies were rightly placed ahead of me as they arrived. Thank you Suffolk NHS
@MartinSLewis Cont…. Luxuries include, alcohol, fuel for the car, the car itself, holidays and clothes they all get saved separately. One of us is careful with money the other spends their last penny every month. This has worked for 25 years. Luckily the careful one is generous
@MartinSLewis we have a joint account for house keeping. A months bills were added up the amount divided by two and on pay day each puts 50% in the -food/housekeeping items are included. But no luxuries are purchased from it. This keeps a roof over our heads and food on the table
