---- We Strongly Condemn the Regime’s Arrest of Clergy and Journalists Following the Arsi Massacre of Orthodox Christians.

As previously reported, a horrific wave of violence was unleashed across three districts of East Arsi on May 31,2026 and June 1, 2026, carried out by the Prosperity regime and one of its ideological allies, OLF-Shene.

The initial reported toll of this brutal campaign was devastatingly heartbreaking: over 50 innocent civilians were massacred, more than 300 homes and two Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo churches were burned to the ground, nearly 190 people vanished, and over 500 families were displaced.

Since then, ongoing efforts to uncover the full scale of the tragedy have revealed an even darker reality: the death toll has now climbed past 112. Desperate to bury the truth, a regime that fears exposure is now aggressively cracking down on the very people breaking the silence, arbitrarily hunting down and detaining the clergy and journalists who dared to report on these atrocities.

Among those unjustly arrested in this crackdown are several Orthodox leaders, including Kesis Memhir Dr. Zelalem Mezgebu. More recently, authorities abducted independent journalist Salsawit Baykedagn and ordered her into solitary confinement. This follows last week’s retaliatory expulsion of French journalist Augustine Passilly, who is widely respected for her balanced coverage of Ethiopian affairs.
Salsawit Baykedagn, a former journalist for state-affiliated outlets Fana and Walta who now works independently, was picked up by security forces on June 8, 2026. Her sole "crime" was reporting the truth about the East Arsi massacre. After days of being held in total isolation, our Council confirmed that she was brought to court on June 16, 2026, tied to the same arbitrary case file as Dr. Mezgebu Kassa.

While these heavy-handed tactics are entirely expected from a regime that orchestrates mass violence against its own citizens, we cannot look away. We must speak out for those who have been silenced behind bars.

The motive behind murdering civilians and then jailing the journalists and community leaders who report on it is obvious. The government wants to rule through fear, forcing the public into absolute silence while innocent people are slaughtered. This is a desperate strategy that is bound to fail.

The Addis Ababa Media Council remains fully committed to ensuring that the victims of the East Arsi massacre are not forgotten. Equal to that mission, we fiercely condemn the wrongful imprisonment of the clergy and journalists targeted simply for exposing the truth. We will continue to champion their cause and amplify their voices on both the national and international stage.

በሸዋ ጠቅላይ ግዛት መርሃቤቴ አውራጃ፣ ደራ ወረዳ ላይ እራሱን ኦነግ (OLA) እያለ የሚጠራው እና ከአገዛዙ ጋር እየተናበበም እየተቀናጀም የሚንቀሳቀሰው ኃይል በአማራ ላይ መጠነ ሰፊ ጥቃት መክፈቱን ለማወቅ ተችሏል።

ጥቃቱ ከሰኔ 9 ቀን 2018 ጀምሮ በውድቅት ሌሊት የተጀመረ ሲሆን፣ ላለፉት ሶስት ተከታታይ ቀናት በተካሄደ አረመኔያዊ ጥቃት በርካታ ንጹሀን አማሮች በማንነታቸው እየተለዩ ተገድለዋል፣ በርካቶች ቀላል እና ከባድ የመቁሰል አደጋ ገጥማቸዋል፣ በርካቶችም ታግተዋል፣ እንዲሁም ከፍተኛ የንብረት ዘረፋ እና ውድመት ተፈጽማል። በአማራ ሕዝብ ላይ የጭፍጨፍ ጥቃት የከፈተው የኦሮሞ ነጻ አውጪ ሰራዊት/ሸኔ (OLA) የሚባለው ታጣቂ ኃይል ሲሆን፣ በአገዛዙ የመከላከያ ሰራዊት እና የአካባቢው ባለስልጣናት ከፍተኛ እገዛና ሽፋን እንደተሰጠው ከስፍራው ያሰባሰብነው መረጃ ያመላክታል።

ታጣቂው ኃይል ሰኔ 9 ቀን 2018 በጉንዶ መስቀል ጥቃቱን በመጀመር፣ በመርሃቤቴ በኩል ወደ ደራ አቅጣጫ፣ በስላሌ በኩል ወደ ደራ አቅጣጫ እና በምእራብ ወሎ በኩል ወደ ደራ አቅጣጫ በሶስት ግንባር ጨፍጫፊ ኃይል አሰማርቶ መጠነ ሰፊ ጥቃት መክፈት ችላል።

የአከባቢው የአገዛዙ ባለስልጣናት፣ በስፍራው የነበረውን ሚሊሻን ከባዶ ከተማ በማስወጣት፣ ከተማዋን ክፍት በማድረግ እና ነዋሪውን ያለአንዳች ተከላካይ ኃይል በማስቀረት፣ የኦነግ/ሸኔ ኃይል ጥቃት እንዲፈፀም ሁኔታዎችን አመቻችተዋል።

የመርሃቤቴ አውራጃ አካል የሆነችው ደራ ወረዳ፣ በብአዴን አመራሮች አሳልፎ ሰጪነት ከአማራ ክልል ተነጥላ ለኦሮሚያ ክልል የተሰጠች ሲሆን፣ ነዋሪዎቿ በአብዛኛው አማሮች ናቸው። ወረዳዋን የወሰደው የኦሮሚያ ክልል፣ የህዝብ ስብጥሯን ለመቀየር ላለፉት 35 ዓመታት ተከታታይ ሙከራዎች ያደረገ ሲሆን፣ አማራን ከስፍራው ጨፍጭፎ የማጻዳት ዘመቻ በስፋት ሲፈጸምባት የቆየች የደም መሬት ናት።

የአዲስ አበባ ሚዲያ ምክር ቤት በአገዛዙ እና በኦነግ/ሸኔ በደራ ሕዝብ ላይ የተከፈተውን ጥቃት በእጅጉ ያወግዛል። መላው የኢትዮጵያ እና የአማራ ሕዝብ፣ እንዲሁም የአማራ ፋኖ ለተጠቃው ሕዝባችን በአፋጣኝ ትደርሱለት እና የጄኖሳይድ ኃይሎችን ከጎኑ ሆናችኹ ትመክቱ ዘንድ ጥሪ እናቀርባለን። ይህንን ፀረ አማራ ዘመቻን ለማክሸፍ የአማራ ፋኖ እያደረገ ያለውን ተጋድሎ ምክር ቤታችን በእጅጉ ያደንቃል።

ጦርነቱ በነገደ አማራ ሕዝብ ላይ ከተከፈተው የብልጽግናው አገዛዝ የዘር ማጥፋት ዘመቻ አንደኛው ገፅታው ሲሆን፣ በወለጋ፣ በአጣዬ፣ በአርሲ፣ በመተከል፣ በባሌ፣ በሀረርጌና መሰል የኢትዮጲያ ግዛቶች ውስጥ የተፈጸመ ሀገር አቀፍ ጭፍጨፋ አካል ነው። ጄኖሳይደሮቹ በተደጋጋሚ እንደሚዝቱትም፣ መቋጫው አዲስ አበባ ነው። ዓላማውም የኢትዮጰያ ህዝብ ደሙን አፍሶ፣ አጥንቱን ከስክሶ ምትክ የለሽ ብርቅዬ ህይወቱን ሰውዕቶ የገነባት እና ነጻነቷን ጠብቆ ለዛሬ ትውልድ ያስተላለፋትን ሀገረ ኢትዮጵያ ማፈራረስ ነው።

የአማራ ሕዝብ የተከፈተበትን ነገዳዊ ጥቃት መክቶ ለማክሸፍ መታገል ከጀመረ ሶስተኛ ዓመቱን በያዘበት በዚህ ወቅት፣ "የደራ አማራ ጥቃት ተከፈተበት" ብለን ከምናሰማው ጩህትም ሆነ ለቅሶ ባሻገር፣ ንፁሃንን በማንነታቸው በጅምላ እየገደለ፣ እያገተ እና ሀብት እና ንብረቱን እየዘረፈ ያለውን ይህንን የጄኖሳይድ ኃይል መላ ኢትዮጰያዊያን በሙሉ ኃይላችን ልንገጥመው እና ህልውናችንን ልንከላከል ይገባል። በዚህም ሂደት የዓለም ህዝብ ከመላው ኢትዮጰያ ህዝብ እና ቀጥተኛ የዘር ማጥፋት ጦርነት ከተከፈተበት የአማራ ህዝብ ጎን ሊቆም ይገባል።

Reports from Showa Dera (Kolu), an area with a large Amhara population currently administered under the Oromia region, indicate that homes and properties have been set on fire and civilians have been affected by ongoing violence.

We call on the international community, humanitarian organizations, human rights institutions, media outlets, and diplomatic missions to urgently monitor the situation, investigate the reported attacks, and help protect civilians.

The world must not remain silent in the face of allegations of ethnically targeted violence. Independent verification, accountability, and immediate humanitarian access are urgently needed.

በእሳተ-ገሞራ አመድ ላይ እንደበቀለች አደይ አበባ፣ በአራት ሺህ ዘመናት የታሪክ ማዕበል ውስጥ ጸንታ የቆመችው ጥንታዊቷ ሀገር ኢትዮጵያ፣ ዛሬ በገዛ ልጆቿ ደምና እንባ እየታጠበች ትገኛለች። ታሪክ በነፃነት ማህደርነቱ የመዘገባቸው፣ አባቶቻችን በደማቸው የቀለሟቸው አረንጓዴ፣ ቢጫና ቀይ ሰንደቆች ዛሬ በንጹሐን ዜጎች አስከሬን ላይ ማልቀሻ ሆነዋል።በተለይም በአርሲ ምድር፣ በምሥራቅና በምዕራብ አርሲ አረንጓዴ መስኮች ላይ የፈሰሰው የንጹሐን ኦርቶዶክሳውያን፣ የአማራ፣ የሲዳማና የጭቁን ብሔረሰቦች ደም ተራ የወንጀል ክስተት አይደለም። ታሪክ ይቅር የማይለው፣ የሰው ልጅ ሕሊና ሊሸከመው የማይችለው፣ ፋሽስታዊ እና መዋቅራዊ የሆነ የዘርና የሃይማኖት ማጽዳት (Ethno-Religious Cleansing) ወንጀል ነው።

ለመሆኑ ለዘመናት በአንድነት፣ በፍቅርና በመከባበር፣ በአንድ ወንዝ እየቀዱ፣ በአንድ ማዕድ እየተቋደሱ በኖሩት ሕዝቦች መካከል፣ ይቺ ታሪካዊትና ቅድስት የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን እና ንጹሐን ምዕመኖቿ ላይ እንዲህ ያለ አረመኔያዊ ግፍና ሰይጣናዊ ጭካኔ ለምን ሊፈጸም ቻለ? መልሱ የሚገኘው በጫካው ወንበዴዎች ጠመንጃ አፈሙዝ ላይ ብቻ አይደለም፤ መልሱ ያለው በአራት ኪሎ ቤተ-መንግሥት ውስጥ በተጠነሰሰው እኩይ ርዕዮተ-ዓለምና መዋቅራዊ ስትራቴጂ ውስጥ ነው።

✋ ምዕራፍ 1፦ የመዋቅራዊ ጥፋቱ ታሪካዊ መነሻና የርዕዮተ-ዓለም መሠረት

ይህ በአርሲ፣ በባሌ፣ በጅማና በሐረርጌ ምድር የሚታየው ስልታዊ ጥፋት በድንገት የተከሰተ አደጋ አይደለም። የቆየ፣ የሰረጸና ስልታዊ በሆነ መንገድ ትውልድን ሲበክል የኖረ እኩይ ፖለቲካዊ ትርክት መርዛማ ፍሬ ነው። የኢትዮጵያን ታሪካዊና ስልጣኔያዊ መሠረት ለመናድ የተነሱት የቀድሞው ሥርዓት መሪዎችና አባል ድርጅቶቻቸው፣ ሀገሪቱን አፍርሶ የጎሳ ሪፐብሊኮችን እውን ለማድረግ ደመኛ ጠላት አድርገው የፈረጇቸውን ሦስት አገራዊ ምሰሶዎች ለይተው አውቀው ነበር፦

የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያንን፦ የአገራዊ አንድነት፣ የታሪክና የስልጣኔ እምብርት በመሆኗ።

የአማራን ሕዝብ፦ በኢትዮጵያዊነት ማዕቀፍ ውስጥ ሀገርን በማቅናትና በማቆም ሂደት ውስጥ የተጫወተውን ሚና ለማዳከም።

ታሪካዊውን ሥርዓተ-መንግሥት፦ የሀገሪቱን ቀጣይነትና የሉዓላዊነት ተምሳሌትነቱን ለመስበር።ይህ የጥላቻ ፖለቲካ፣ በ19ኛው ክፍለ ዘመን ወደ ኢትዮጵያ መጥቶ የነበረውን ሚሲዮናዊ የዮሐንስ ክራፕፍን የተዛባና የተንኮል ታሪክ ድርሳናት በመኮረጅ፣ በፖለቲካ ማኒፌስቶዎቻቸው ላይ እንደ መመሪያ ቀረጹት። ይህ መርዛማ ትርክት ጠባብ ብሔረተኞች እንደ አሸን እንዲፈሉና በንጹሐን ላይ የጥላቻ ዘመቻ እንዲከፍቱ በሩን በሰፊው ከፈተ።

✋ ምዕራፍ 2፦ የ"መደመር" መጽሐፍ ምስጢርና የታለመው ጠላትነት

የሕወኃትን አፍራሽ ፈለግ በመከተል ሥልጣኑን የተቆጣጠረው ተተኪው የብልፅግና ሥርዓት፣ ይህንኑ እኩይ ርዕዮተ-ዓለም ይበልጥ በረቀቀና ስልታዊ በሆነ መንገድ መሣሪያነቱን ቀጠለበት። በተለይ በአሁኑ ወቅት በአገሪቱ ላይ የተጫነው የብልፅግና መንግሥት መሪ፣ በራሱ መጽሐፍና ፍልስፍና ውስጥ በግልጽ እንዳስቀመጠው፣ በሀገሪቱ ውስጥ ያሉትን ጥንታዊና ነባር እምነቶች (ታሪካዊቷን የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያንን እና ጥንታዊውንና ታሪካዊውን እስልምናን) እንደ ብልፅግና ሥርዓት ጠላትና እንቅፋት አድርጎ ፈርጇቸዋል።
