@AndrewMakin20@jk_rowling@AmnestyUK In the UK, thatโs defined way too extensively. Still, even under UK law, I donโt believe this qualifies. Itโs an expression of an opinion.
"The decline of Europe is not inevitable, despite how much Americans love to joke that the continent is doomed to be an open-air museum. Sure, it's things may have to get worse before they get better, but believing that 'it's over' is just loser talk." https://t.co/74IfQiIU6N
@JohnLoc94972445@jk_rowling@AmnestyUK I think their reasoning was: "These single-sex shelters exclude trans women. Trans women are women and have a right (even if not legally, then morally) to be treated equally to all other women. This right is being denied to them."
@JohnLoc94972445@jk_rowling@AmnestyUK I do. But what's the plainly false claim here? In the context of a dispute about conflicting rights, what does it even mean when one side calls the other 'anti-rights'?
@JohnLoc94972445@jk_rowling@AmnestyUK I would like to be able to criticise my opponents, poignantly if I see fit, even and especially when they disagree with my criticism. Conversely, I must tolerate their right to do the same.
@ZuleikaMccq@jk_rowling@AmnestyUK This is an opinion. What does anti-rights even mean? Everyone is against some rights. Amnesty themselves would seem to oppose certain sex-based rights. So argue with them. Itโs a debate.
@roisenav@jk_rowling@AmnestyUK Lies? โX is an anti-rights groupโ is an expression of an opinion. Disagree with them, call them anti-rights themselves, since they argue against sex-based rights.
Trying to have them punished is illiberal and petty.
@scottgrvs@Evolutionistrue I'm quite confident on the basis of this interview that the president of the AAA seriously thinks exactly that. And she is not alone.
@scottgrvs@Evolutionistrue Did you see this from the president of the American Anthropological Association? It might be on the wane, but the claim that sex (not just gender) is non-binary still has a great many influential adherents.

Weirdly fascinating interview with the president of the American Anthropological Association.
Lee asks good questions, and Rouse answers... badly.
Here, she says we know there are more than two sexes because a Google search will tell us that there are. A Google search, oy.
@HistoryBoomer Whatโs just as fascinating about this answer is that she pretends this was about outsiders forcing or pressuring anthropologists to express the (correct) two sexes view, when in fact itโs about her association pressuring them not to.
@leftie0@AjaTheEmpress It describes someone who is attracted to people of their own sex, and not attracted to people of the opposite sex who have transitioned to their gender.
Pride think you have a sort of moral obligation to e.g. be attracted to trans men if you are attracted to men.
@simongerman600 And with migration, it depends. It could help temporarily if those who come have high enough employment rates and earnings, or it could make things worse, adding even more people whose lives in expensive cities need to be tax financed. The latter is what we have in Europe now.
