In #Lagos, I met with members of #Nigeria’s vibrant media community to discuss how we can deepen our collaboration and keep humanitarian issues visible.
Through humanitarian storytelling, the media can help ensure that communities affected by conflict are heard, understood and not forgotten.
I also spoke about why neutrality matters: it enables @ICRC to engage with all sides and keep the needs and dignity of affected people at the centre.
A strong, responsible media plays a vital role in giving voice to those who are rarely heard and bringing their humanitarian concerns into the public conversation.
Armed conflicts are not beyond the reach of the law. Warring parties are not free to pursue victory at any cost, especially when it endangers civilians.
Even wars have limits, always.
Nigerian families cling on to mementos as disappeared kin remain missing
As the world marks the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, families in Maiduguri, Nigeria, continue to live with the pain and uncertainty of loved ones who have gone missing. Mementos such as photographs, pieces of clothing and other treasured personal items have become lasting connections to their kin, whom they have not seen for years. Through these objects and the memories attached to them, the families share stories of love, loss and hope as they continue to search for their missing loved ones. #ThroughTheLens
Strengthened institutions can mean better support for people affected by crisis.
Proud to have joined @nrcs_ng on the investiture of @SenRemiTinubu as Grand Matron of the National Society and the inauguration of @nrcs_ng new headquarters in Abuja, important milestones for humanitarian action in Nigeria.
Nigerian forces rescued 360 captives, including women and children from a Boko Haram mountain hideout in Borno State.
The military said the captives were abducted from multiple communities and held under harsh conditions. Two infants who were held captive died from exhaustion.
📍Nigeria |
When health care is no longer safe, it is often the clearest warning sign that the rules & norms intended to limit the harm of war are breaking down.
Healthcare must be respected and protected.
Guided by the principles of humanity, neutrality, and impartiality, our teams are on the ground in Geidam, delivering emergency assistance and facilitating access to life-saving specialized care for the most severely injured in Jilli.
To treat those injured in Jilli market in northeast #Nigeria, we delivered emergency supplies, supported local health centres treating 32 casualties, & ensured the most severely injured were referred for specialized care.
“The Red Cross is a neutral, impartial humanitarian organisation focused only on helping civilians affected by conflict,” @ADawobe speaks on allegations of ICRC and NRC's involvement in assisting terrorists.
Partnership in action 🤝
Today @ICRC_Nigeria and @nrcs_ng signed the 2026 operational cooperation agreements to continue our long-standing work to support people affected by armed conflict in #Nigeria.
The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara state in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the death toll still unconfirmed and many still unaccounted for. We express our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by this senseless violence. We welcome President Tinubu’s order to deploy security forces to protect villages in the area and his directive to federal and state officials to provide aid to the community and bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice.
Honoured to present my credentials as @ICRC Head of Delegation in #Nigeria to H.E. Minister Tuggar. In times of immense humanitarian need, the ICRC stands firm in its neutral, impartial role. Recognition by the authorities of this mandate is timely and deeply appreciated.
@ipobnews I am bringing to your attention that the story is misleading and not correct. The ICRC did not partake in any such activity in Bama. I request you to update it and take out the name of the ICRC.
Thank you

📍 Ethiopia | In the face of conflict, many families lose not just their homes, but also the everyday items that allow them to live with dignity.
We recently provided essential household supplies to 188 families in need across seven rural wards in the Oromia region.
