I am Honored to participate in today’s “Resilient Minds, Drug-Free Lives” conference in @HuyeDistrict at @UR_Huye where youth, mental health, and substance use prevention were at the center of the conversation.
I was privileged to engage with representatives from @RBCRwanda, @HDIRwanda, @Huye |Isange Rehabilitation Center, @Rwandapolice, and @AmbEinatWeiss of @IsraelinRwanda Listening to insights from professionals working in addiction care, community health, trauma recovery, and youth protection reminded me that mental health and substance use challenges require more than awareness alone they require safe spaces, early support, collaboration, and community-led solutions.
As a young medical student and mental health advocate, I left this conference encouraged by one clear message: young people must not only be part of the conversation, but part of the solution. Rwanda’s future in mental health promotion, prevention, and recovery will depend on how boldly we choose to act today.
Grateful for the learning, the conversations, and the shared commitment to building healthier and more resilient communities.

Strengthening residency training through dedicated site coordination.
This week, we launched the Residency Program Site Coordinators initiative in four teaching hospitals: Nyamata, Gisenyi, Ruhengeri, and Kibagabaga. The visits focused on introducing the role of site coordinators, engaging faculty and residents, and strengthening communication channels to ensure timely identification and resolution of challenges affecting residency training.
We are encouraged by the positive reception from faculty and residents and look forward to enhancing the quality of postgraduate medical education across all training sites.
📝 Proud to have participated in the @GWE_Conference Kigali 2026, a remarkable gathering of healthcare professionals, educators, researchers, policymakers, and students committed to advancing wellness through awareness, advocacy, and local ownership.
One of my greatest highlights was representing @HealingHearts78 during the exhibition sessions. This was an incredible opportunity to showcase the impact of our work in promoting mental health awareness, youth empowerment, and community wellbeing across Rwanda. Sharing our journey, achievements, and vision with participants from different countries reinforced my belief that local solutions can create global impact.
The conversations, feedback, and partnerships formed during the exhibition inspired me to continue advocating for accessible and sustainable mental health support for young people. I am grateful to everyone who visited our exhibition booth and engaged with our mission.
This experience reminded me that every community deserves hope, support, and opportunities to thrive. The journey continues, and I remain committed to building healthier and more resilient communities through Healing Hearts Initiative.

We proudly honor Marwan Abdirahman Awl, Medical Student, Medical Writer, and Founder of Synergy Youth Consulting.
🤝 One of the most valuable outcomes of my participation at GWEC Kigali 2026 was the opportunity to connect, learn, and build meaningful professional relationships with inspiring leaders from different sectors and countries.
I had the privilege of networking with distinguished professionals including @DGishoma , Head of the Mental Health Division at @RBCRwanda, Olivier Watrin, Chief Information Officer at @ViebegM Medical & Dental Supplies Ltd; SHEMA Joseph, Consultant in Strategic Management and Resource Mobilization at @IrcadAfrica; @TKabuteni, @WHORwanda Representative, and Rodrigo Lopez from Chile, @IsraelinRwanda These conversations provided unique insights into mental health leadership, health innovation, strategic partnerships, and global collaboration.
Beyond networking, GWEC 2026 created powerful spaces for dialogue across multiple tracks, bringing together healthcare professionals, educators, researchers, and students to discuss wellness, burnout prevention, mental health, and sustainable healthcare systems. The conference reinforced a powerful message: we must prioritize the wellbeing of those who care for others.
I leave GWEC 2026 inspired, empowered, and more committed than ever to advancing mental health advocacy, youth leadership, research, and collaborative action across Africa and beyond.
