We were an established local Amnesty International Group in Wimbledon and Merton area. Campaigning for human rights around the world. Sadly, closing soon
Many thanks to @btselem for their courageous and important report, the first from an Israeli organisation and media concluding Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
They are joining @amnesty and thousands of organisations, including Palestinian organisations, scholars and jurists in reaching this "unequivocal conclusion" and in demanding an end to the genocide.
In addition to Gaza, @btselem report also focuses on the crimes committed in the occupied West Bank, including forcible transfer, and warn us all that Israel is “replicating in the West Bank - albeit on a smaller scale - some of the patterns it is implementing in Gaza."
Given Israel' s ongoing crack down on the work of Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations, @btselem needs the support from all around the world who believes in justice and accountability, in independent media, in courageous reporting.
We must end the genocide in Gaza. It should have ended months ago.
During my two-day visit in Ireland, when I had the opportunity to meet with Ireland’s head of state and head of government, among other senior officials, I focused heavily on Ireland's principled leadership internationally, and the actions it has taken thus far to stop Israel's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
The EU’s disgraceful refusal to take action to hold Israel accountable highlights the need for Ireland and other likeminded member states to urgently take unilateral or concerted steps to bring their actions in line with international law.
For Ireland, this means adopting a strong Occupied Territories Bill which will include banning all imports and exports of goods and services to and from Israeli settlements in illegally occupied Palestinian territory, as well as investments in them.
Despite the fearmongering and bullying by certain parties to derail the bill, Ireland must stay firm in its convictions and commitment to justice.
More than 70% of Irish people support the bill. The Government must hear their demands too and proceed with its adoption.
In this interview with RTE yesterday morning, I explain why the proposed Bill will not violate EU law or US Federal law: https://t.co/jpFtQthncz
29 human rights wins to be proud of!
Over the past six months, the headlines have been dominated by stories of fear, division and hatred. However, activists around the world are working away to ensure hope prevails. Here are some of the human rights wins we can be proud of.
22-year-old women's rights defender, Saba, has been given a 24-year prison sentence for campaigning against discriminatory forced veiling laws in Iran.
