@GreenPlusAnE@scottlincicome A retiree with $1M in their 401K still gets 40% of their income from social security. That total income? $60K a year (SS+401K). Not exactly luxury status. Be careful about the whole “millionaires don’t need social security” thing.
Great to have @USCTO47 at our El Segundo facility. Fast planes require fast engineering and fast manufacturing. We were excited to show you some real hardware that to prove the point.
Thanks to Ethan Klein, U.S. Chief Technology Officer, for stopping by our new LA headquarters. @USCTO47
We gave him a look at our growing R&D operation in LA and the work underway to build fast planes even faster.
Hypersonic aircraft startup @hermeuscorp scored a $159M contract modification from the @DIU_x to continue developing hypersonic airdraft and “demonstrate high-Mach flight and high-speed payload release,” bringing the OG contract's ceiling to $219M.

I interview dozens/hundreds of new grads, nearly every day of the year. These are people with a well-formatted resume and a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from well-regarded US universities and a GPA above 3.6. The majority cannot engineer, cannot function independently, cannot answer basic technical questions. We have watered down standards and inflated grades to the point that a bright, enthusiastic student spending four years in school sends almost no signal at all.
What does? Hard evidence of actually building stuff. There is no substitute for actually doing the thing.
@Grimezsz@GaryMarcus LLMs *talk* in EXACTLY the same sense that printers *write*. Both produce text based on an algorithm distilled into digital instructions. The LLM understands its output no more than a printer understands the documents it prints.
All personnel are accounted for and safe. It’s too early to know the root cause but we’re already working to find it. Very rough day, but we’ll rebuild whatever needs rebuilding and get back to flying. It’s worth it.
It took just 364 days for @hermeuscorp to go from the first-ever flight of Quarterhorse Mk 1, to the first supersonic flight of Quarterhorse Mk 2.1… but there’s more to that accomplishment than speed.
Let’s talk about BUILDING aircraft.
Supersonic. Mach 1.21.
Quarterhorse Mk 2.1 is now the world’s first privately developed, unmanned supersonic jet and the fastest unmanned aircraft flying today.
This flight makes Hermeus the fastest company in aviation history to go from founding to supersonic flight - exactly 364 days after the maiden flight of our first aircraft.
Now, we fly faster.
A special thanks to @DIU_x, Director @OwenWest91, Maj. Gen. Joe "Solo" Kunkel, and Deputy Director Kyle Norman.
@nytimes@nytopinion Wealth and income are different. If you make $100K and have $1M in your 401K, you probably pay about 10% of your income, but 1% of your “wealth”, in federal income come tax. Should we be shocked and offended at this middle class person “only paying 1%” of their wealth?
