At the #ICDRR “Financing Drought Risk in Africa: Where Do We Need to Go?” session, @Ngabitsinze stressed the urgency to tackle Africa's data limitations, optimise early warning systems & secure sustainable finance for the continent and for ARC towards scaling our reach and impact

[African Risk Capacity Group @ARCapacity]

Pointing to the anticipated El Niño in 2026/27, Dr @JudithDah, Deputy Executive Secretary, stressed the urgency to strengthen Africa's disaster preparedness, and encouraged ARC to develop catastrophe bonds and collaborate @AfDB_Group to expand resilience financing options

[African Risk Capacity Group @ARCapacity]

Opening the ICDRR, H.E @daniel_cha38684, Mozambican President, stressed how "without effective risk management, economic, social & environmental progress remains vulnerable to the growing impacts of disasters.” He called for stronger continental cooperation in resilience building

[African Risk Capacity Group @ARCapacity]

H.E. @MosesVilakati, AU Commissioner (ARBE), urged governments & partners to move from commitments to implementation. With limited time remaining to achieve the Sendai Framework’s goals, he emphasised the need for strong governance and strategic investment ahead of disasters

Cecilia Ankintomide, ARC Ltd Board Chairperson, concluded by encouraging actors, "Africa cannot manage disasters after the fact or treat them as a humanitarian response event - we can do better". Preparedness must be embedded in national institutions and well coordinated.

[African Risk Capacity Group @ARCapacity]

Resilience does not begin after a disaster. It begins with preparedness - that was the key message at the "From Preparedness to Resilience Finance,” ARC pre-event to #ICDRRR2026. Africa must move to anticipatory action, as climate events rise & ElNiño is predicted
#preparedness

[African Risk Capacity Group @ARCapacity]

INGD Board Chairperson, Ms Luísa Celma Meque, drew on Mozambique’s experience, stressing that preparedness must be proactive. No single institution can address threats alone. Building resilience requires stronger coordination, collective responsibility and proactive investment.

[African Risk Capacity Group @ARCapacity]

True climate resilience is a team effort. At #ICDRRR2026 ARC side event, partners, WFP & the Insurance Association of Mozambique highlighted the need to blend government leadership, ARC's innovative financing, and insurance to mitigate climate risk #ClimateInsurance #Preparedness

[African Risk Capacity Group @ARCapacity]

Partner's voices: With El Niño threatening communities across Africa, we cannot afford to manage disasters after the fact. The World Bank's REPAIR programme is changing the game, unlocking pre-arranged funds within 7 days of a request to protect lives
#ICDRRR2026 #ClimateFinance

[African Risk Capacity Group @ARCapacity]

How do we move from preparedness to resilience? Zambia & Lesotho show how they are integrating contingency planning, risk modelling & climate insurance, intentionally shifting to proactive disaster response & strong institutional coordination
#ICDRRR2026 #AnticipatoryAction

[African Risk Capacity Group @ARCapacity]

"Sometimes, we have the feeling that disasters are better prepared than we are." A powerful reflection from Lesotho’s Retselisitsoe Molefe at #ICDRRR2026 pre-event. Member states are shifting from reactive crisis response to proactive climate resilience with ARC & partners
