Society cannot continue to allow PSSD suicides to happen while simultaneously parading as an entity that cares about mental health.

This post is reality for all of us suffering from PFS and PSSD. Nearly every single one of us are constantly on the verge of ending our lives. Somehow we continue to wake up in bodies that have long since stopped resembling us, in a world that doesn't care or see the horror that was inflicted upon us, and watch as we are expected to live every moment of every day like this life destroying injury didn't happen to us all as a consequence of taking FDA approved pharmaceutical drugs.

PSSD pushes so many people to suicide. I really don't understand how this can keep happening, but when I factor in the nonchalant culture surrounding SSRIs, comment filtering on almost all social media platforms, and the way pharma has convinced a generation of young adults that their own sexuality is a necessary sacrifice for the greater good of not suffering from psychogenic illness we don't even understand, it starts to make sense.

Things need to change. The societal cheerleading for SSRIs and Finasteride, especially among naive young adults, has to stop. These are not harmless and nonchalant substances, they are extremely dangerous drugs that can, in almost every meaningful way, kill a human being inside of their own body and sentence them to a lifetime of misunderstanding, trauma, sensory loss and pain until they eventually summon the courage to do themselves in.

Shoutout to the pharmaceutical drug injured social media content creators that make videos with their real names and faces and openly talk about the horror that has happened to them. It takes a lot of vulnerability, bravery and willingness to deal with internet toxicity to do so.

The open transparency these people display is the painful step the community is forced to take to have these problem legitimized. There's the immediate pain of announcing to the world that you've been chemically castrated, or there's the long quiet pain of silently contributing to a world that refuses to take med harm seriously.

Hopefully one day, people will not have to choose between these two options just for having trusted the medical system.

That’s exactly one of the primary issues. For a drug aggressively marketed today (especially through telehealth companies like Hims), many patients who report persistent adverse effects are simply dismissed when they seek medical help. Because of this, the true scope of the harm becomes much harder to measure.

We recently interviewed Dr. Mayer Brezis about this, and the associated harm is likely significantly underreported.

I wrote a brief blog about our new paper published criticising the FDA’s approval of escitalopram (Lexapro) for Generalised Anxiety Disorder in children and adolescents. The pivotal trial showed that the drug was more likely to make children suicidal than improve anxiety. The approval needs to be reversed urgently and the FDA approval process revamped. Link below

The news articles that say finasteride or SSRIs "may" cause or increase the risk of sexual dysfunction and depression are such a minimization of what these drugs can actually cause: anhedonia, emotional blunting, cognitive dysfunction, bone-related issues, muscle wasting, physical changes, and much more. And to not emphasize that these changes can be permanent is a serious slap in the face to those suffering.
