A gist from the majalisa yesterday
A wealthy man had been married to his first wife for more than 25 years. Allah blessed them with two daughters, whom they raised into adulthood.
Years later, the man married a second wife.
The first wife never accepted the new marriage. She constantly quarrelled with her husband, resented the second wife, and made life difficult for her at every opportunity.
Then, one day, tragedy struck.
The husband was involved in a fatal accident and passed away.
As the family mourned, everyone remembered that the second wife was pregnant.
The first wife quietly began thinking about the inheritance.
She reassured herself:
"Even if she gives birth to one boy, my two daughters will still have a substantial share. It won't make much difference."
Months passed.
The day of delivery arrived.
The family gathered outside the maternity ward, anxiously waiting for news.
The doctor finally emerged with a smile.
"Congratulations! Mother and babies are doing very well."
The family looked at one another.
"Babies?"
The doctor continued,
"She has delivered three healthy baby boys."
Silence filled the room.
The first wife was speechless.
Everything she had imagined about the inheritance changed in an instant.
But Islamic inheritance is not determined by emotions, seniority, or human expectations. It is determined by Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
The two wives inherit their prescribed share, while the remaining estate is distributed among the children according to the law of Allah. Since the deceased left three sons and two daughters, each son receives the share of two daughters, exactly as Allah ordained in Surah An-Nisā' (4:11).
JUST IN: The Nigerian Defence Academy has announced that it would conduct an inter-company obstacle crossing competition for Short Service Cadets on Saturday at its Afaka facility.
I have an app idea called Amanah.
It came from a dark thought: what if I die and nobody knows the debts I owe?
Sometimes we keep debts private out of shame or fear.
the app would let Muslims securely record debts and obligations for the right people to access when needed.
