It's mad to think almost this entire landscape was once *incredibly* species-rich native rainforest. And that it would revert unassisted, but for those 4-legged strimmers.
But maddest of all is that for farmers, no sheep = no subsidies.
YOUR taxes are pushing ecological ruin.
Natureโs finest engineers at work! Just like mangroves protect our coasts, these beaver dams help protect ecosystems upstream. Thanks for having me in Somerset @BenGoldsmith! ๐ฆซ๐ณ๐๏ธ
Make no mistake, if @RishiSunak removes the "nutrient neutrality" rule, then it will be clear once and for all that he doesn't give a stuff about the environment, our rivers, or our international commitments, and that he is in hock to vested interests
It was JUST 6 MONTHS AGO that his Government committed, at @UNBiodiversity #COP15 to HALVE nutrient pollution in next 6.5 years
Now, it's rumoured he's going to remove a rule that is merely trying to stop it getting worse
It's a nonsense to suggest it's "stopping house building". There is planning permission for 1m new homes in this country, but they're not being built for a number of reasons, including land banking and speculating by housebuilders
If the Prime Minister caves into the commercial housebuilding lobby, we will need to see even bigger and faster cuts in nutrient pollution from farmers
Or the state of our rivers will get ever worse

I listen to podcasts when walking 'in town' and am a huge fan of @thememorypalace. This morning's offerings included an account of the Great Hinckley Hunt of 1818. If you're a lover of wolves and wild spaces, this is a reminder of the progress made: https://t.co/4sksjVqPjx
What is so striking is how many conservative mps are still talking about what is โ best for the partyโ. Itโs a real give away - that party still seemingly comes before country and constituents and democracy.
Best vegan bacon burger I've ever had, at @Hankrestaurant Paris Archives yesterday. Malheureusement, I scoffed it before I could take a photo ๐ #Vegan#plantbased#Paris
Fantastic evening listening to @gordonjbuchanan look back at his career and how the planet has changed - largely due to human actions - in the last three decades. Food for thought. Catch his tour if you can.
So @JohnLewisRetail you donโt sell plastic bags now but gladly sell this artificial grass which is a environmental and biodiversity disaster. It contributes to #plasticpollution and #ClimateCrisis
