In less than 24 hours, @WHOAFRO has delivered nearly 12 tonnes of emergency supplies to support the #Ebola response in the #DRC 🇨🇩
Today, WHO’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Hub in #Nairobi 🇰🇪 dispatched 4.7 tonnes of medical supplies and equipment to Bunia, with critical airlift support from @MONUSCO.
Another 7 tonnes of supplies arrived in Bunia from Kinshasa on 17 May, alongside 35 @WHO and @MinSanteRDC experts and first responders.
WHO and partners are moving fast to scale up lifesaving support.
A shipment of 18 tonnes of essential medical supplies and equipment from @WHOAFRO’s emergency hubs in #Dakar and #Nairobi has been prepared for shipment to support the #Ebola outbreak response in #DRC.
The supplies, including personal protective equipment, diagnostic and sample collection kits, tents and hospital beds will strengthen ongoing response efforts and help protect communities.
Grateful to @MONUSCO for agreeing to airlift the shipment to ensure rapid deployment where it is needed most.

.@WHO is working closely with #Ethiopia’s @FMoHealth, the Ethiopia Public Health Institute and regional health authorities as part of the rapid response to a suspected outbreak of a viral haemorrhagic fever (VHF) in the Southern Ethiopian Region.
8 people, including health workers, have reportedly been infected.
WHO has deployed experts to the affected towns, along with medicines and other materials to support care for people in need, and personal protective equipment for health workers.
WHO will also be supporting contact tracing in affected communities. Samples have been sent for testing. Further details are expected soon.
I have released US$300,000 from the WHO Contingency Fund for Emergencies to provide immediate support.
WHO’s offices in Ethiopia and South Sudan are collaborating closely to prevent potential cross-border transmission. WHO is ready to scale up support, as and when needed.

Twenty days have passed without an Ebola case in #DRC as of 15 October. Eighteen patients have recovered and reunited with their families, while one is still receiving care.
Once the remaining patient is discharged and no new case is reported, the country will begin the 42-day countdown to declare the outbreak over. @WHO and partners are on the ground supporting case management, surveillance, community engagement and other key response efforts.
