Major love and respect to the Polish MP’s who co-ordinated their outfits to create a rainbow flag at the swearing in for their homophobic president Andrzej Duda 🏳️🌈
@EddieComeaux The UC system spends an egregious amount of money on policing and it's time we reallocate the funds to other resources for black and POC students such as drug recovery, food insecurity and homelessness. #RacialJustice
Im on the streets 5 hrs a day protesting. As an POC in the education department I do not understand why you arent supportin your students and their personal or collective life struggles. Cut the final let us fight your battle #ucr150#BLM @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely@EddieComeaux
@david_lopez112@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar Hi, I agree, it is unfortunate that universities don’t encourage or academically challenge athletes. They fear students won’t be eligible to play, so they take any short cut that will guarantee athletes a passing GPA. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@JANELYmena@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar Hi, I totally agree. in addition to their education sacrifices, they give up opportunities such as having a job or internships that may help further their career. And the worst part is they don’t get compensated. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
White vs. NCAA reached a settlement allowing students-athletes to access funds for educational purpose only for the class of 2008, leaving out the rest of the student-athletes that come after that class. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@armandito_96@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree, athletes dont meet the one-time transfer exception if they participate in football/basketball/baseball. this goes to show how the NCAA benefits of these athletes. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
The NCAA legislated academic eligibility standards has resulted in academically under-skilled athletes graduating from high school but still meeting the GPA requirement to gain admission to selective institutions. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@MaleaHallawaara @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely Hello I agree. I think that the NCAA should require all member institutions to provide coaches and players with concussion education as it is vital they know the signs for their safety and liability. @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely#ucr150
It is irresponsible that most guidelines for management of sports concussions use poor approaches that neglect guidelines that support return to cognitive and psychosocial activities. Instead they focus upon return to play. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@dianajaayy @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely Hi, I agree. Unfortunately women athletes do not receive the same recognition. For example, the UCR Women’s Basketball Games are scheduled on a weekday while the Men’s basketball games are on the weekend. @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely#ucr150
@sheilaluna___@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar Sheila, I agree that it is unfortunate that the NCAA takes advantage of the fact that student athletes have had little to no training in what the rules mean and how the rules structure works before signing. #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
By signing a letter of commitment that ultimately binds athletes to a set of rules that they may feel they have no alternative but to sign, is contradicting to the NCAA’s principle of amateurism, where student athlete participation is done for fun and is voluntary. #ucr150
@SadieChaffee @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely I agree, it is unfortunate that the NCAA imposes strict policies and guidelines for their athletes to maintain their amateur status, which makes them eligible to compete. I firmly believe that the NCAA should eradicate the concept of amateurism. #UCR150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
90% of the revenue that flows into the NCAA Comes from the media rights and ticket sales for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. $0 goes to the athletes as a result of their amateur status. Amateurism is used by the NCAA to collude, price fix, and manipulate production. #UCR150
@BCARD38139413 @rabea_qamar Hello, I do not think it is fair. Scholarships go towards tuition, so they should be paid for the time they spend training. The NCPA, CAPA, and the SAHRP work to advocate for athletes rights and protection against abuse and economic exploitation.#ucr150@rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
The NCAA provides support services for academics, health insurance, medical treatment, career planning, and time management (etc.) for college athletes, but no salary compensation. Compensation should be considered a factor to the rights and wellbeing of collegiate athletes.
