"Silence is Complicity: Calling Out Cameroon’s Atrocities Against Ambazonia and the World’s Failure to Act"

Cameroon’s systematic atrocities against the people of Ambazonia have reached a horrifying threshold. These acts, brutal in nature and deliberate in execution, represent grave breaches of international humanitarian law. Yet, the silence of the international community grows louder each day, emboldening Cameroon to continue these violations unchecked.

The following incidents highlight the depth of Cameroon’s cruelty:

On September 3, 2024, in Mbatu Nsongwa Village, Bamenda, Cameroonian occupation forces mercilessly shot and killed four civilians on a motorcycle. Among the innocent lives lost were Bih Vivian, a mother of four, and Pancho, a bike rider who leaves behind a pregnant wife. These lives were taken without reason, leaving families shattered.

Just days later, on September 8, 2024, in Pamol Lobe, Ekondo-Titi, two bike riders met the same brutal fate, gunned down by Cameroonian forces in a blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions. In Bamenda that same day, Mr. T-Pain, another civilian, was targeted and killed solely because of his Ambazonian identity.

Also, on September 8, 2024, Cameroonian forces conducted a mass abduction in Bamenda, Mezam State, targeting innocent Ambazonian citizens, including women and children. Such large-scale abductions of non-combatants are undeniable war crimes.

On September 9, 2024, Cameroonian forces were implicated in numerous crimes across Ambazonia. They abducted, raped, extorted, and unlawfully detained civilians in a calculated assault on human dignity, further revealing their disregard for humanitarian law.

September 17, 2024: In Babanki, Bamenda, an innocent young woman, on her way home from a burial, was murdered alongside two others by Cameroonian forces. This indiscriminate violence highlights Cameroon’s intent to terrorize Ambazonians at every opportunity.

The horror continued on September 18, 2024, in Bamali, Ndop State, where Cameroonian forces abducted and killed Mr. Herbert by dragging him behind a truck, claiming he was a suspected Ambazonian fighter—a claim denied by witnesses.

Again , on September 20, 2024, in Bamenda, Mezam State, a taxi driver was brutally abducted, tortured, and murdered by Cameroonian forces. His death, like so many others, is a blatant violation of Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions, yet it remains unaddressed.

Each of these incidents is a cry for justice, a call for accountability. Cameroon’s occupation forces have committed acts that fit the definitions of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Civilians, who are protected under international law, have been murdered, abducted, and tortured under Cameroon’s brutal regime. The question is: Why does the international community remain silent in the face of such cruelty?

The world has witnessed the signs of impending crises before, only to regret later inaction.

To remain silent is to be complicit. The international community must respond, not with words but with actions that hold Cameroon accountable. The ongoing brutality in Ambazonia demands immediate intervention to prevent further atrocities and to protect the rights and lives of Ambazonians

Cameroon’s illegal occupation of Ambazonia is no different from the occupation you so rightly oppose in Palestine. Yet, Norway not only remains silent but is complicit in Cameroon’s reign of terror over Ambazonians. Leaders like Dr. Cho Ayaba, who have risen to defend the rights of Ambazonians, are being unjustly persecuted, and Norway has done nothing but aid Cameroon in its attempt to crush this legitimate struggle. Dr. Ayaba remains unjustly held by Norwegian authorities in complicity with Cameroon, simply for standing up for his people’s right to freedom.

Your government’s stance is not just morally indefensible—it is deeply hypocritical. As you call out Israel for its human rights violations, you continue to work hand-in-glove with a regime that has inflicted years of violence, torture, and genocide on the people of Ambazonia. Where is Norway’s outrage for the thousands of Ambazonians who have been slaughtered? Where is Norway’s concern for the leaders who have been silenced, jailed, and exiled, simply for seeking the freedom that you once recognized?

Norway cannot claim to stand for justice in Palestine while simultaneously endorsing Cameroon’s oppression of Ambazonia. You cannot demand respect for international law in one case while blatantly ignoring it in another. This selective application of justice is a betrayal of the very principles Norway claims to uphold on the global stage.

It is time for Norway to end its complicity in Cameroon’s illegal occupation of Ambazonia. It is time for Norway to demand the immediate release of Dr. Cho Ayaba and all other Ambazonian leaders who are being persecuted for defending their people's right to freedom. **Norwegian Government: Respect Human Rights and Rule of Law – Release Dr. Cho Ayaba**

Dr. Cho Ayaba’s arrest on Sept 24, 2024, for alleged incitement of crimes against humanity in Cameroon is a violation of his rights. For nearly a month, Dr. Ayaba has been unjustly detained without conviction, in clear political persecution aided by Cameroon’s regime.

Norway’s actions violate the **European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR)**:

1. **Article 5** – Right to liberty and security. Dr. Ayaba’s prolonged detention without evidence is unlawful.
2. Article 6– Right to a fair trial within a reasonable time.
3. Article 10– Freedom of expression. His arrest is an attack on his right to speak out against Cameroon’s human rights violations.

This also violates the **International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)**:

1. Article 9– Right to liberty and security.
2. Article 19– Right to freedom of opinion and expression.

Under **Norwegian law**, **Section 94** of the Constitution protects against unlawful deprivation of liberty. By law, no one can be held for more than **48 hours** without being brought before a judge (**Section 183, Criminal Procedure Act**), yet Dr. Ayaba remains in detention without justification.

Norway must uphold its legal obligations. Dr. Ayaba is being persecuted for peaceful advocacy against a brutal regime. Norway must act now to prevent further injustice and release Dr. Ayaba immediately.

We write to express grave concern and strong objection to the detention of Dr. Cho Lucas Ayaba for prolonged questioning without adequate preliminary investigations. This action violates international criminal justice procedures and fundamental human rights.

Your actions contravene Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, ensuring individuals' liberty and security. The United Nations Human Rights Committee emphasizes the importance of prompt judicial review of detention (CCPR/C/GC/35).

Furthermore, the French Code of Criminal Procedure (Articles 40, 80 and 80-1) underscores the prosecutor's role in determining the validity of complaints and the investigating judge's responsibility to ensure due process ¹.

Respect for human rights and international law is paramount. We expect swift action.

Dr Ayaba Cho Lucas is a public figure and social change activists whose activities are well known. He is a renown human rights defender with particular focus on the rights of Ambazonians who are victims of a 64 years long undocumented and under reported Cameroun genocide in Ambazonia.

Dr Ayaba Cho Lucas is a victim of the genocide who has been like most Ambazonians incited into self-defense actions due to the genocide unleashed on Ambazonian freedom fighters with impunity and for so long. The genocide which is aimed at hiding the annexation and recolonization of Ambazonia due to a UN botched recolonization process in 1961 has been acknowledged by international human rights organizations, the US Congress, World Bank and the University of Oxford, Britain.

No person or people under the sun can witness firsthand or undergo the genocide in Ambazonia and succumb to it without rebellion. Norway must not join the international conspirators against the victims of the genocide in Ambazonia and her sovereignty rights but should look for ways of implementing justice as per the international engagement of the responsibility to protect victims and bring the long standing conflict between Cameroun and Ambazonia to a close.

**⚖️⚖️⚖️Paul Biya: Africa’s Second-Longest Serving Tyrant and the Brutal Oppressor of Ambazonia**

Paul Biya of Cameroon, Africa’s second-longest-serving president, came to power on March 6, 1982. For over 42 years, he has thrived on tyranny, oppression, corruption, and manipulation.
His regime silences and crushes any opposition through brutal means—those who dare challenge him, like John Fru Ndi and Maurice Kamto, have faced house arrest, mysterious disappearances, or forced exile. Biya’s rule is built on fear, violence, and the systematic elimination of dissent.

Since 1961, Cameroon has persecuted Ambazonia with brutal impunity. Under Biya’s leadership, the situation has only worsened, as his regime continues its campaign of senseless massacres, summary executions, and community destruction. Ambazonian leaders who have stood up against this tyranny have been hunted down, imprisoned, or killed. Those who survived are forced into exile, living as fugitives simply for seeking justice.

From 2016 to now, the Biya regime has executed over 30,000 Ambazonians, displaced more than 1.5 million internally, and turned over 1.3 million into refugees. Villages have been burned to the ground, and arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances are daily occurrences. The international community's failure to hold Biya accountable is a disgrace and a betrayal of its moral and legal responsibilities to prevent atrocities.

To make matters worse, with the help of Norwegian authorities, Paul Biya’s regime has targeted Dr. Cho Ayaba—a freedom fighter, human rights defender, and advocate for justice—by arresting him, portraying itself as the victim while it is, in fact, the oppressor.

It’s time for the world to act and end the reign of terror that Biya’s dictatorship has inflicted on the people of Ambazonia.
The international community must intervene now to stop these crimes against humanity and serve justice to the people of Ambazonia .

We call upon the international community to urgently turn its attention to the ongoing genocide in Ambazonia. When world leaders declared "Never Again" after the horrors of the Rwandan genocide, they reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the 1948 *Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide*.

This commitment was not merely a slogan, but a binding obligation under international law.

We remind world leaders of their duties under the *Responsibility to Protect* (R2P), a principle endorsed at the 2005 *World Summit*, which requires states to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity.

We call on them to invoke R2P for the people of Ambazonia, as these atrocities fall squarely within the international community’s mandate to prevent.

The principle of R2P exists to prevent mass atrocities, and its application must not be selective. As enshrined in the *Universal Declaration of Human Rights* (1948) and the *International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights* (1966), the right to life and freedom from arbitrary violence is universal. What is deemed essential for the West must equally apply to Africa.

The perpetrators of genocide in Cameroon cannot be allowed to walk freely on the international stage, enjoying impunity while continuing their crimes. Cameroon must be held accountable under the *Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC)*, which criminalizes war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity.

Stop shielding a dictator at the expense of innocent lives—women, children, and young people cut down in their prime. Invoke R2P now. The silence of the international community violates not only moral duty but international law, as outlined in the *Geneva Conventions*, which protect civilians in conflict zones. This silence is why we fight for our right to self-defense, and why Dr. Cho Ayaba leads the struggle to protect his defenseless people.

We ask for justice and action—consistent with the international legal frameworks that demand it.

Today, Ambazonia, instead of receiving the global protection afforded to victims in Ukraine, Palestine, and elsewhere, is being further victimized by the international community, while the perpetrator, Cameroon, walks free and continues its atrocities.

To the Norwegian authorities, the U.S., and any other nations Cameroon is conspiring with to arrest freedom fighters, human rights activists, and defenders of justice: the video below illustrates why Dr. Cho Ayaba fights. The more we call for international intervention, the more the world turns its back.

Below is the tragic image of an innocent 3-year-old whose life was taken by Cameroon’s military. The world has yet to hold Cameroon accountable for this and hundreds of other crimes in Ambazonia.

Who is the real victim here? Cameroon, whose military floods our streets, killing our women and children, slaughtering our youth, raping our mothers and daughters, forcing sons to commit unspeakable acts, burning our homes, destroying our communities, and carrying out mass arrests and extra-judicial killings?
