Really interesting. We are getting students to engage with academic history as part of our new KS3 curriculum. I am astounded by how far a careful selection of gripping, meaningful texts, scaffolded properly can hold a room of 12 year olds!
Why do history teachers get pupils to read at length? What are the history-led rationales? How have these teachers lured pupils into reading more than we dared think possible? All the wisdom in @histassoc June TH What's the Wisdom on..? https://t.co/HHAtcRfb43 First 3 pages:
Considering Truman’s foreign policy in Asia today was the perfect excuse for my a level students to write all over their desks. Thoughtful ideas annotated along their sliding scales proved for great conversations and fun 🤩
It’s been a great start to the academic year at the wonderful Vyners school @SPBeale. Teaching our new Y8 enquiry on abolition has reminded me of the importance in empowering our students with detailed knowledge about complicated histories.
I’ve included some bits from the lessons and my enquiry planner. Would be keen to hear how others in history teacher land tackle this topic. It’s been so tough to do in just 4 lessons. Thanks to the lovely @MsNMS_ for the wonderful Haitian Revolution art. The kids loved it!
@trapani_barbara Hi Barbara, would you possibly be able to give me a follow back please? I have a question about a fabulous resource you shared on the Silk Roads. Would be great to DM chat :)
Went to Tesco earlier and had a lovely lady tell me how proud she was of my YOUNGER BROTHER for overcoming his stammer and making her cry. This can be taken in two ways. A) I am growing old. B) My stammering is becoming unnoticeable. Let’s just go with B
Wish I could be in classroom with my Y8s exploring African Kingdoms in all their depth and glory, hoping they’ll enjoy these booklets in the meantime - made with @TrevorGetz4 brilliant lesson plan and rich resources available on https://t.co/Yt1U5dfvdl thanks to @nickdennis
Anyone attacking teachers for being cautious about a return to schooling isn't helping. Anyone attacking parents for wanting to send their children back isn't helping. Anyone seeking to divide rather than come together to work through tricky trade offs isn't helping.
This is a fairly consequential para in school guidance, especially as testing becomes more available/commonplace:
Where a child or staff member tests positive, the rest of the class will need to self isolate for 14 days.
It’s going to be a muddle for a good while longer yet.
