All constructive replies welcomed. Any hitters/Coaches (any level) welcome. If you’re here to argue for the sake of arguing, go elsewhere. @CoachGilly6
This log is designed to:
1. Provide a resource for our freshman (and incoming recruits) to reinforce all of all of the concepts that we think make up a good hitter.
2. Force me to verbalize our approach to better communicate it to all of our guys that hear things differently.
PRE-SEASON TRAINING THOUGHTS
-Set aside time to train above our heads
-Overload the environment and figure out how to bite off as much as you can chew
-Conditioning our body to operate INSIDE that heightened sense of awareness not trying to fight against it.
The @jimbrorace special:
-3 plate breaking balls.
-You MOSTLY hit the hangers up front & take dirt balls at the back, but variance in baseball hangs some & buries some
-Move from plate to plate
-Yes, Yes, No
-Add variable of someone adjusting machine height between pitches.
Set Up Options:
-2+ people
-Double barrel
-FB/CB.. FB in/FB out.. etc. Any 2 pitches
-Put both on the ramp
-Give hitter a lift and drop for timing
-Get better
If you’re working, and it’s only you, turn the auto-feeder on and move forward and backward between pitches to add a variable. Try not to allow yourself to hit the same pitch twice in a row.
-Hitting a moving baseball is an incredibly dynamic, athletic movement
-The answer is never to swing slower (note: less effort for more control could be applicable) or “try” to hit the ball
-Accelerate through the swing, not @ constant speed
Slow bat, fast ball = limited success
Understand that the goal of your training is to simulate what you’ll see on the weekend.
Mix in different variables to your training, & find out which variables poke which holes in your swing.
Adjust, patch those holes, add/change a variable... adjust.... add.. adjust... etc.
Have different partners feed the machine.
“He’s not good at feeding the machine.” Don’t wanna hear it. Create adjustable rhythm. Timing differs pitcher to pitcher, and some pitchers, pitch to pitch.
It’s not an accident that good hitters look good regardless of who’s feeding.
PARTNER WORK. SET UP OPTIONS:
2+ guys.
-Replicate/test against game “stuff”
-Off angle to identify & poke holes in swing plane.
👉🏻GOAL: send it back where it came from.
-Pull side to understand what it feels like to pull/adjust while connected.
👉🏻GOAL: Hit HRs and keep it fair

Artificially creating swing plane is a losing proposition. Pitch plane dictates swing plane 4 most part. (Match swing plane 2 pitch plane)UR desired ball flight can modify the swing plane 2 some degree. Best & most consistent results occur when UR focus is external.(Ball flight)
