Trichy is facing a serious Tapentadol abuse crisis.

An 18-year-old girl reportedly lost her life after drug overdose in a private lodge at Cantonment. Two 19-year-old youths have been arrested. Just two weeks ago, 1,280 Tapentadol tablets were seized in Ariyamangalam.

The biggest concern is the easy online purchase and courier delivery of prescription drugs. When a painkiller can reach youngsters without proper prescription verification, it is not just a police issue it is a government failure.

The government has failed to control prescription drug misuse, online drug supply, pharmacy-level leakage, and youth drug abuse hotspots.

Govt must immediately act:

Stop illegal online sale of Tapentadol
Enforce strict prescription verification before dispatch
Track courier and parcel movement of such drugs
Create a cyber-drug control cell
Conduct pharmacy and online vendor audits
Track supply from manufacturer to pharmacy
Monitor lodges and known hotspots
Provide free de-addiction and counselling support for youth

A prescription painkiller becoming a street drug is a dangerous warning. Govt should stop giving excuses and act before more young lives are lost.

Our group person Usha Mani's father has been missing for the past 1.5 days. He was last seen leaving home around 8:30 AM and mentioned that he was going to the Nanganallur Anjaneyar Temple. Since then, we have been unable to contact or locate him.

He is 81 years old.
