This movie got so close to reality that the government shut it down before it could be finished.
On the Silver Globe (1988) is one of the strangest sci-fi films ever made. Directed by Andrzej Żuławski, it follows a colony of astronauts whose descendants gradually transform history into myth and religion.
The film was nearly lost forever when the Polish communist government shut down production in 1976 and ordered much of it destroyed while it was about 80% complete.
Years later, Żuławski recovered enough footage to finish the film. Missing scenes are replaced by his narration over documentary footage of modern Poland, giving the movie an even more surreal and unique quality.
There’s an uncut 2K scan of this just waiting to be unleashed on the world, and yet it waits...
If I had fuck you money I’d release a thousand physical copies, just because it’s the right thing to do.
Here are comparisons between the prior VHS of “Turtle Vision” and the beautiful new restoration (by @VinegarSyndrome). We cover this film (and the rest of Pink Line / Satô Vol. 3 on “Two in the Pinku” 🐢

@CNKellerbach There’s nothing worse than thinking you missed a gem for decades somehow for like, two seconds, and then all the jank hits you at once and makes you feel like a dumbass.
Either way the joke eas low hanging fruit, I’ll take it.
@dylannebzz1@chungking151994 The versions on streaming services have been remastered from the master print elements. They look clean, but sometime they've been over-corrected and look a bit sterile.
35mm scans are from actual prints shown in theaters. Think of it like a classic vinyl vs remastered CD.
Like most movies of the time. Brave Little Toaster was animated with both 1:33 and 1:85 aspect ratios in mind. I'm making sure the framing is correct with both aspect ratios. Because there's a slight position shift in the film scan. in the last 30 minutes from the print they used
I am a huge Spielberg nerd, and also a Tobe Hooper fan (especially Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2). So, knowing both styles in and out, I say this with full conviction and authority: Spielberg directed Poltergeist.
Takashi Miike’s The Bird People in China (1998) is as (goodnaturedly) obtuse as you’d expect from a Japanese perspective on their disconnect with the rest of East Asia, but it’s terribly funny and looks GORGEOUS. The splotchy guerrilla camerawork captures Yunnan beautifully.

Will there be more Hanuman films remastered in the future?
I won't promise when, as this already took a century to finish... but I ain't done with this mad monkey man yet.
