@Liz_Wheeler And the whole argument keeps landing exactly on later Catholic sacramental doctrine because that's the interpretive framework driving the reading, not something the sources independently produce. It's Catholic hermeneutics wearing the costume of historical reconstruction.
@Liz_Wheeler Worth noting too: several of his own cited sources cut against his reading. He builds "crucified Passover lambs" on a late Mishnah passage plus Justin Martyr, a Christian apologist with obvious motive to find prefigurations, not independent Jewish attestation.
@analyticatheism Material theory struggles to say what counts as a good background fact without smuggling in formal criteria, and offers little guidance in novel domains with no established science to supply warrant. No single theory wins across contexts, demanding one is the mistake.
@analyticatheism I hold to methodological pluralism here (Roth's sense). There's no master framework of induction. Each theory has strengths/weaknesses: Bayesianism can't represent true ignorance, DST hits the Zadeh problem.
@SpeedWatkins And the inference itself needs more than "atheism predicts this, theism merely allows it." An observation confirms a hypothesis only via a specific explanatory connection, not mere compatibility.
@SpeedWatkins Also "methodological naturalism" in actual phil of science it's procedural: science stays agnostic on the supernatural. Quine and Roth use it differently again, for whether epistemology stands prior to inquiry. Neither sense gets you a probability argument for atheism on its own
Iain McGilchrist says matter is a phase of consciousness.
Just as ice, vapor, and liquid are all water, they look different but are the same.
We only know about matter because consciousness exists.
@IanCook321 Miller is right that the resurrection narratives are shaped by familiar Greco-Roman themes. But his thesis requires a much stronger claim: that these literary patterns explain the origin of belief itself, not merely the form of its expression.
I have done it. I have posted my critique of Richard Miller's resurrection thesis. I have not seen anyone criticize him in his methodology so I've decided to do just that! Hopefully skeptics will think twice before using his work

@SpeedWatkins Morality is grounded in normative relations between agents. To say that morality is grounded in an agent is a category error. Moral facts concern how agents stand in relation to one another obligation, responsibility, harm, care not intrinsic properties of isolated beings.
Blog where I refute (somewhat) @DerekPodcast

I do plan to do more blogs responding to both apologists and counter apologists from the perspective of the philosophy of History.
@MichaelBir8003 I'm assuming Caleb Jackson has shifted your views on miracles. Although I prefer a more Syncretist view of them. I don't think miracles can confirm any particular religion unless it has a message behind it
Assuming that all religions are false doesn’t make atheism true.
At most, it disproves dogma, not divinity. The core data that atheism appeals to: evil, hiddenness, religious confusion lose their force once you move beyond religion as I argue here:
