Common law is a great engine of economic growth, which is why adopting it consensually to govern overseas deals happens all the time — including within contiguous zones like the Dubai Financial Center. The only connection to “colonialism” is that people who posture about the latter on Twitter tend to recoil against anything, anywhere, that entails productive economic activity.
