A new study just tried to give Stonehenge's Altar Stone a natural ride from Scotland, and the glacier still could not finish the journey.

Geology traced the 6 ton stone to the far north of Scotland, around 435 miles from where it lies, and how it travelled has been tearing at researchers ever since.

🔹A journey of around 435 miles south
🔹No glacial pathway found into southern England
🔹Ice could only take it as far as the drowned North Sea

That distance is further than London to Edinburgh, every step of it overland or by water, unless the new model is right and ice did part of the work.

And the thing most people miss is that even the glacier's best case strands the stone at Dogger Bank, under what is now open sea, leaving humans to haul it hundreds of miles anyway.
