For my last repost I wanted to share this post. This post is great because it highlights how healthy eating could be incorporated no matter what cultural diet you currently have. Being aware of what you put on your plate is the first step. @beh353#beh353

@eshainschool@beh353 I agree! Nutritional health plays a vital role in the overall health of a patient, and it needs to be incorporated in practice more. This course has made me more aware and mindful of the factors that contribute to nutritional health. @beh353#beh353
In this nutrition course I have learned a good foundation of knowledge on healthy eating and the obstacles that factor in. While allowing me to go about talking on nutritional topics, it has also given me a variety of good resources I can utilize as a future PA. @beh353#beh353
I found this post by https://t.co/1DmXmOdjt4 very helpful. It gives a Q&A of common nutrition questions that can act as a helpful guide to healthy eating. This also can work towards disproving common fallacies about nutrition and correct common misbeliefs. @beh353#beh353

@karisbauman@EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 I was very shocked when I learned this. A common belief is that processed foods should be limited if not cut out of our diet. This just shows the need for a RD because they can provide further information regarding your diet that may contradict the common belief. @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD I really appreciated your lecture this week. Overall, it has brought to light how important RD is within healthcare and the many aspects of care they deal with including in and out patient care. They provide useful knowledge that should be utilized. @beh353#beh353
I wanted to repost this to highlight how important that everyone is involved in providing children with the means of healthy eating. Providers can share helpful information while parents, outreach programs, and schools can follow these nutritional guidelines. @beh353#beh353
Yesterday, @USDANutrition Administrator Cindy Long visited the Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade County with @SecondGentleman & @RepWilson where students not only receive nutritious meals, they participate in activities like hydroponic gardening and nutrition education. #MyPlate
@karisbauman@beh353 Kids should be involved with grocery shopping as it leads them to be more aware, and depending on the parents diet, it could help with creating healthy habits. I like this article because it covers basic healthy items that anyone can include in their diet. @beh353#beh353
This article by the American Academy of Pediatrics highlights the nutritional standards of children at different ages. This article is easy to read, well organized, and comes from a credible source. It also includes links to other articles! @beh353#beh353

This article reposted by a BMJ student highlights the dangers of overlooking conditions based on weight. They discuss many factors relating to the topic including what to look for instead and how to watch out for "victim blaming" during their check-up. @beh353#beh353

@karisbauman@beh353 I agree with this. I think it is terrible patients are feeling this way. I believe physicians and healthcare workers should be trusted individuals and patients should not be shamed when they enter the office. @beh353#beh353
This weeks video mentions how there have been many cases people in which individuals are getting "fat shamed" by physicians, leading to misdiagnosed conditions. This highlights the importance of believing the patients concern and trusting they know their body. @beh353#beh353
This post by the USDA is directly related to our topic on obesity. In lecture we learned that obese preschoolers have a statistically higher chance of being an overweight adult. The My Plate campaign and advertisements teaches children the basis of healthy eating! @beh353#beh353
@eshainschool@beh353 I agree this is a very shocking and worrisome topic. This is also why it is so important that healthcare workers, schools, and policy makers come up with solutions to help prevent children from becoming overweight and in turn, prevent obesity rates to keep rising. @beh353#beh353
One concept that stuck with me was the racial divide of weight that the U.S. experiences. This divide is derived from many factors. Healthcare workers need to keep in mind that background/environmental factors are important when helping find ways to lose weight. @beh353#beh353
I really like this post by Sandra Frank. One of my main reasons for unhealthy eating is no time to plan to cook or buy my food. Part of that reason is because I just don't know what to eat. These easy quick, lunchbox meals can set me up for a healthier diet. @beh353#beh353
@karisbauman@beh353 I have to same barrier when it comes to healthy eating. When I have work, I never plan my meals and usually pick up Wendy's because it's near. When I have homework, I always think about what takes the least amount of time and usually ends up being fast food. @beh353#beh353
The barrier of healthy eating I relate to the most is "Lack of time to plan, shop, prepare and cook healthy foods," Its hard for me to find time or just get up and go to the store. Even when I do have time, cooking takes more energy than just picking something up. @beh353#beh353
Heart disease is a big concern in our country and leads many people to over consume supplements in their diet to insure they avoid it. However, in this article it shows we can easily avoid it through a healthy diet and the vitamins we receive through it. @beh353#beh353
@kaylaamariee675@beh353 I also looked at my supplement bottles and not only were most of the vitamins over the daily dose but they also had the same label. It is so surprising that most of our supplements are not regulated and at a certain point you have to ask if it is healthy or not. @beh353#beh353
