Liliana Heredia, @CHCANYS VP of Workforce Development and @NYHFoundation grantee: āWeāve never seen workforce issues like thisā in community health centersāNYSās critical safety net. People arenāt showing up for their first day of work or leaving a week later for better offers.
Jean Moore, @CHWS_NY Director and @NYHFoundation grantee, highlights the disconnect between health professionalsā many competencies and statesā restrictive legal scopes of practice in NYS and beyond. Journalists across the country at #HJ24 are taking note!

With pending New York State legislation currently under the Governorās consideration, this medical debt report provides timely analysis of the disparities of medical debt in New York State. https://t.co/TyhIYuoyXa
Whatās more, Black and brown New Yorkers often bear a disproportionate burden of this medical debt. In the Capital District, communities of color had a median debt in collections of $899, vs $448 for white communities, per @urbaninstitute. 2x higher is striking and unacceptable.
šØ Of consumers with medical debt in NY, 48% owed >$500, including 30% who owed >$1,000 AND about 13% who owed >$2,000!!
These percentages are shocking. See @urbaninstitute's report for more: https://t.co/xKZoVlSphG
(3/3) These findings underestimate the true burden of medical debt across New York State, as analysis is limited to debt reported to credit bureaus. Our charge has never been clearer to #EndMedicalDebt
(2/3) If you live in a predominantly Black and brown community in Central New York, 1 in 4 (28%) of your neighbors will be sent into debt collections over medical bills. An appalling finding.
(1/3) Before this new analysis from @urbaninstitute , racial/ethnic disparities of medical debt in New York State were masked. Localized patterns show a clearer picture of the crushing burden on communities of color across the State. https://t.co/gTRHPsrkPu
New Yorkers are being crushed by medical debt. A lot of good reform is happening to #EndMedicalDebt, but thereās more to be done. You wonāt want to miss this conversation!

Promising news that 8M less Americans have medical debt than 2 yrs ago. But with New Yorkers soon at-risk of losing Medicaid with the end of continuous coverage and far too many still facing financial ruin, more needs to be done to #EndMedicalDebt
