We are gravely concerned about the enforced disappearance of Emre Çınar, a 35-year-old Turkish lawyer and long-term lawful resident of Mozambique since 2017, who serves as the legal representative of Willow International School in Maputo.

On 30 December 2025 at approximately 15:00 local time, Mr. Çınar was taken into custody in Sommerschield, Maputo, while meeting a lawyer friend at a public café inside the park area housing the FRELIMO headquarters—a highly visible location with multiple security cameras. He was approached by several individuals claiming affiliation with Mozambican intelligence services, who communicated exclusively in Portuguese and appeared coordinated and prepared.

Despite repeated and explicit requests, they refused to present any official identification, credentials, or a valid arrest warrant. They briefly displayed a single-page document but deliberately prevented it from being read, examined, photographed, or explained, offering no legal basis or grounds for the arrest, and gave no explanation regarding any alleged offence or the authority under which they were acting.

Mr. Çınar’s mobile phone and all personal belongings were immediately confiscated, and he was told he would be taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Since being forcibly removed in broad daylight, no official information has been provided regarding his exact whereabouts, legal status, the authority responsible for his custody, his physical or psychological condition, or whether any charges exist.

Family members, colleagues, and legal representatives have made urgent inquiries at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, multiple police stations, and other relevant institutions, yet no authority has acknowledged holding him, produced any detention record, or confirmed his presence in any facility. He has been completely denied access to a lawyer and all contact with his family or the outside world.

We urgently call on the Mozambican authorities, including President Daniel Chapo, the Ministry of Interior, SERNIC, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, to immediately:

1) publicly disclose Emre Çınar’s exact whereabouts;
2) officially acknowledge legal responsibility for his custody and produce all detention records;
3) guarantee his physical integrity and safety;
4) ensure immediate and unrestricted access to legal counsel of his choice and communication with his family; and
5) fully comply with Mozambique’s constitutional guarantees and international human rights obligations, including the absolute prohibition of secret detention and enforced disappearance.

We further call on the African Union, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, international human rights organizations, diplomatic missions, media, and global civil society to intervene without delay.

🚨 URGENT ACTION: FEAR OF REFOULEMENT IN KENYA
Amnesty International is deeply concerned that Mustafa Güngör who was arrested with his wife Zeliha, daughters Seniha Betül and Zeynep, and his in-laws Zümrüt and Salim is at serious risk of refoulement to Türkiye, where he could be subjected to arbitrary detention, torture, or ill-treatment. We have reliably learnt the Turkiye authorities sought his arrest through a Mutual Legal Assistance request to office of the Attorney General. Kenya has an obligation under international law not to return anyone to a country where they face persecution or harm. We call on the @DCI_Kenya and both authorities to: 
✅ Respect the legal principle of non-refoulement 
✅ Ensure due process and protection for family 
✅ Allow continued access to legal representation and UNHCR and @Kenyajudiciary

Erzurum Aziziye Koleji’nde görev yaptığı için 8 yıl 6 ay hapis ceza verilen ve 5,5 yıl yattıktan sonra tahliye edilen KHK’lı öğretmen Ender Gökmen (39), Erzurum’daki evinde geçirdiği kalp krizi sonucu dün hayatını kaybetti.

Cezaevinde parkinson hastalığına yakalanan ve iki yıl önce tahliye edilen Gökmen’in hapisten çıktıktan sonra hem fiziksel hem psikolojik sağlık sorunlar yaşadığı, yürüyemez hale geldiği öğrenildi.

İki çocuk babası Gökmen’in cenazesi bugün Erzurum Asri Mezarlığı’na defnedildi.
